Visit to Musselburgh Library and Borders Book Store
P3/4 have been discussing the benefits and importance of reading for enjoyment.
The village of Whitecraig does not have a library, however, the Mobile Library Van does come to the school every two weeks so that the children can choose and borrow library books. This is in addition to their bi-weekly library skills session in the school library with Mrs McAvoy.
So that the children could see a working library, Mrs Gilbert decided to take the children to Musselburgh Library. The children were involved in every aspect of organising this outing. It was them who phoned the library to find out the opening times and to arrange a suitable time for them to go along.
The outing was arranged for the end of October and the P3/4 pupils along with Mrs Gilbert, Mrs Campbell and parent helpers Mrs Sinclair and Mrs Aiton took the bus from Whitecraig to Musselburgh. They had the opportunity to look around the library and the librarian then read them a story - Beware of Teachers - before they left to walk back to school.
The following week an outing was arranged for P3/4 to go to Borders Book Store at Fort Kinnaird. Again, the children were responsible for making the arrangements.
Mrs Gilbert, Mrs Campbell and Mrs Sinclair took the children to Borders Book Store on Tuesday 9th November 2007. The staff there kindly gave the children a tour around the store both behind the scenes and on the main shop floor. The children were then given a snack and the staff read stories to them before they returned to school.
Thank you to staff at Musselburgh Library and Borders Book Store for their time and for giving the children these wonderful opportunities.

Primary 4, thank you very much for organising both the trips and the favourite character day. Primary 3 and I have enjoyed ourselves as I am sure you all have too.
