Nursery Class Enjoy a Burns Supper
To recognise Burns Day, the children from Whitecraig Nursery enjoyed a Burns Supper on Thursday 24th January.
The children had the traditional Scottish Burns Supper of Haggis, “Neeps” & “Tatties” for their snack. They all sat together with some of them dressed in various tartans and recited the Selkirk Grace before they ate. The Selkirk Grace is traditionally said to toast a Scottish dinner or meal, especially at a social gathering and this was particularly appropriate for the children on this day.
Selkirk Grace
Some hae meat and canna eat,
and some wad eat that want it,
but we hae meat and we can eat,
and sae the Lord be thankit.
Some of the children declared that they didn’t like haggis before they had even tasted it, but most then tucked in and cleared their plates!
