Sports Day - June 2008

The pupils from P1 - P7 enjoyed a sunny (albeit, a bit cloudy) Friday morning on the school field for their Sports Day.

The event was well supported by many parents/carers, grand parents, aunties, uncles and family friends. We would like to say Thank You to everybody who came along to support the children in this way.

The children took part in a number of fun events for their House Groups - Carberry, Pinkie and Fa’Side. These events included flat race, egg and spoon race, sack race and bean bag balancing! Pinkie were the overall Champions on the day.

After an exhausting morning, all of the children enjoyed an orange and a delicious ice-cream!

Please take time to look at the photos from the morning and you will see for yourselves how much fun was enjoyed by everybody!

Nursery - Playing and Learning

The Nursery children have been continuing with their theme of Minbeasts this week.

They have also, like the P1/2 children, made the most of the good weather and have spent a lot of their time outside. They have “painted” the outside walls of the Nursery with water, they have played with the sand, been climbing, playing with the bikes, playing in the water tray and have searched for bugs!

Very exhausting!

We hope that you enjoy looking at their photos of their week at Nursery.

P1/2 have been enjoying the better weather!

P1/2 have been taking advantage of the recent better weather and have enjoyed their break times outside on the school field.

They have enjoyed playing with the new parachute, playing football, hunting for bugs, playing hide and seek, running and just chatting with friends!

Long may the weather continue!

P1/2 have been looking at People Who Help Them

The children from P1/2 have been looking at People Who Help Us for their topic work. This week they have made a fabulous display of their pictures on People Who Help Us.

Their display was particularly aimed at People Who Help Us in a fire, however, the children also thought of other people who can help them in other ways. They came up with Policemen, Lifeboat Men, Paramedics and Nurses to name just a few, and these have all been included on their display.

The Wee Kirkcudbright Centipede by P4/5

P4/5 have made their own Wee Kirkcudbright Centipede this week, complete with 100 pairs of shoes.

The children very much enjoyed making and decorating their Centipede, which has all of their individual photos on it, along with some of the lyrics from the original song.

The lyrics of the song for the Wee Kirkcudbright Centipede, by Matt McGinn, are :-

Oh, the wee Kirkcudbright Centipede, oh, she was very sweet
She was very proud of every one of her hundred feet
Early every morning, her neighbors came to glance
She always entertained them with a beautiful little dance.

Chorus
As leg number 94 gave 95 a shunt
Legs number 1 and 2 were twisted out in front
Legs number 9 and 10 came wriggling up the side
73 and 74 were doing the parlor glide.

Now her neighbor, Jenny Longlegs, with jealousy was mad
She went out and bought herself a pencil and a pad
She came to look one morning, she made a careful note
Of every step the centipede made and this is what she wrote:

Now with her exact notations, little Jenny Longlegs tried
To dance just like the centipede, she failed and nearly cried
She grabbed hold of the centipede, and said, “Now have a look,
Show me how to do this dance I’ve written in my book.”

The centipede said, “Do I do that?” tried to demonstrate
She hadn’t thought it out before, and didn’t do too great
Her hundred feet got twisted and she wound up in a tangle
She fractured 14 kneecaps, 7 shinbones and an ankle.

As legs number 1 and 2 were tied with 3 and 4
Legs number 5 and 6 were canceled on the floor
Leg number 17 was attacked by number 10
98 and 99 will never dance again.

Oh, the wee Kirkcudbright Centipede she suffered in terrible pain
And all the bugs were very surprised the day she danced again
And now she tells her neighbors, anyone who comes to see,
“Never try an explanation of what comes naturally!”

P3/4 Story Telling and Story Writing

P3/4 have been working hard this week on story telling and story writing. Many of the children have produced their best writing ever and were extremely proud of themselves.

Brandon and Duncan are the class Star Writers this week as they both produced great stories using interesting words.

Duncan said ” This is the most that I’ve ever written - it’s really long and fascinating”.

Brandon was also pleased with the amount he wrote and wanted to keep on writing all the next day! Brandon said “I’m really proud of myself”.

Mrs Shipley was proud of him and also of all of the other children in the class for being such brilliant writers.

Well Done P3/4!

This is Brandon’s story, titled Archie’s Adventure. for you to read:-

Archie’s Adventure

One day there was a boy who was called Archie. One early morning Archie’s mum said, “Take this bag to your gran’s house.”So in the bag was loaf of bread a slice of cheese and a slice of choclate. He walked and he walked and he walked until he came to a pond. Then he met a duck a snowy white duck. The duck said what do you have in the bag?Archie said a loaf of bread a slice of cheese but he kept the choclate secretly in his pocket.Ill have the bread please so archie got out the bread scatterd it along the ground and the duck gobbled it all up.So he walked and he walked and he walked until he came to a bridge then he met a cat a lean mean cat. “What do you  have in the bag? “A slice of cheese but he kept the choclate secretly hidden in his pocket! The cat said I’ll have the cheese please. So Archie picked up the cheese put it on the ground and the cat gobbled it all up. Next, he walked and he walked and he walked until he came to a tower, tick tock, tick tock. Inside the tower were three scruffy pigeons. “Hey mate. What have you got in your bag? There was just crums. So Archie put the crums on the ground and the pigeons gobbled them all up.  So he walked and he walked and he walked until he came to a cross road. Archie said I’m hungry. So he looked in the bag there was nothing there.  He remembered that he hid the choclate in his pocket so he got his choclate out and gobbled it all up. He looked both sides there was nothing there. So he walked until he got to granma’s house. Noked on the door. Granma opened and said I’m hungry. What do you have in your bag? I’m sorry but I have nothing in the bag.  I’ts ok said granma as I made pizza and chips for tea!
