We have also been studying volcanoes. We have learned about extinct, dormant and active volcanoes. How much do you know about volcanoes?

Posted by jpeterson in : Uncategorized , add a commentJust to let everyone know that I spoke to Diane King this evening and she is very well and sends her love to everyone. She has a beautiful (and rather large: 9 lb!) baby girl called Sylvie and is enjoying her time at home. She’s planning to come and visit soon.
Nice to see Lucy is back and I wish her all the best with P4/5.
Lots of love, Jane Peterson.

Posted by dking in : Uncategorized , 1 comment so far Just a quick note to say a huge thankyou to my class for being so wonderful this year! I’m extremely sad to not be able to teach the class through to Summer term, but I am really looking forward to coming back in and see how you’re all getting on once I’ve had my baby. Keep up all your hard work! Thankyou for all your wonderful cards, presents and kind words. Hope you enjoy the twister and atlas!
Thankyou also to parents, for your help and support throughout the year. I really hope the blog continues to grow and be of value.

Badminton Festival February 27, 2008
Posted by West Barns P4/5 Student in : Uncategorized , 1 comment so farToday we went to a badminton festival at Dunbar Grammar. We got split into different groups. The groups were purple, red, green, blue and yellow. There was lots of stations. One was a circuit, hitting the shuttlecock over the net which was fun and a keepy-uppy. Timmy’s favourite thing was the keepy uppies. Hannahs favourite thing was hitting the shuttlecock over the net. The organiser awarded some prizes at the end, of some water bottles. Hannah from our class got one for being the fastest girl on on one of the circuits.

What’s new… February 4, 2008
Posted by dking in : Uncategorized , add a commentP4/5 are continuing their work on emotional portraits, using digital images of themselves to develop their portrait drawing. The results are looking really good and I’m hoping to get some photos on the gallery page asap.
The children have been asked to bring in some junk materials for making models of castles. Any cardboard boxes, tubes, shoeboxes etc would be useful to bring in. We are also hoping to make a medieval style documentwith the ’seals’ we made from FIMO clay on our visit to Stirling Castle.
We are starting a new topic in Maths - Position and Movement. We started today with a fun game where the class had to make sense of co-ordinate readings they had been given. The game involved a lot of communication and problem solving.
Thanks

VISIT TO STIRLING CASTLE! January 18, 2008

P4/5 will be visiting Stirling Castle on Tuesday 29th January. This will form part of our research that we are doing on medieval castles. The class have started working in small groups, and will be creating a presentation or book about their findings. On our visit we will be learning about medieval writing materials and the children will have an opportunity to design and make their own ’seal’. Of course we will be having a good look round the castle and bringing back lots of useful information to include in our studies. Letters with details about the trip will be sent out next week.
Thanks

WELCOME TO 2008! January 7, 2008
Posted by dking in : Uncategorized , 1 comment so farIt was great having everyone back today, raring to go in 2008. The class thought about their new year resolutions and wrote them on a ‘new leaf’, which we are going to display on our resolution tree.
We are starting a new topic in Environmental Studies, looking at Medieval Scotland. We have started by exploring what we already know and identifying what areas we would like to learn about. We are hoping to learn about medievel sites in our local area and the Battle of Dunbar! We will also be linking in our language and Drama work to this topic.
In Maths we are starting work on Angles.
The P4’s start their 10 week block of swimming on Thursday - so make sure you all have your costumes with you!
Thanks

Pied Piper - preparations December 12, 2007

As you know, Primary 4/5 are busy preparing for their upcoming production of the Pied Piper show on the 19th December. The children are practicing their songs and lines in class, but all have been encouraged to read and practice at home so that they feel more confident on stage. This is especially important as many children have been off sick recently and we may need some people to stand in last minute!
Could all children have their costumes in school by Tuesday next week at the latest. A written reminder has been sent out about this already - let us know in good time if you are having difficulties finding something suitable.
We do need to get hold of some crutches for one of the parts - if anyone could help out that would be great!
Thank you
Miss King
