stirling_castle.jpg P4/5 will be visiting Stirling Castle on Tuesday 29th January.  This will form part of our research that we are doing on medieval castles.  The class have started working in small groups, and will be creating a presentation or book about their findings.  On our visit we will be learning about medieval writing materials and the children will have an opportunity to design and make their own ’seal’.  Of course we will be having a good look round the castle and bringing back lots of useful information to include in our studies.  Letters with details about the trip will be sent out next week.

Thanks

ppiper.jpgAs you know, Primary 4/5 are busy preparing for their upcoming production of the Pied Piper show on the 19th December.  The children are practicing their songs and lines in class, but all have been encouraged to read and practice at home so that they feel more confident on stage.   This is especially important as many children have been off sick recently and we may need some people to stand in last minute!

Could all children have their costumes in school by Tuesday next week at the latest.  A written reminder has been sent out about this already - let us know in good time if you are having difficulties finding something suitable.

We do need to get hold of some crutches for one of the parts - if anyone could help out that would be great!

 Thank you

 Miss King

basketballAll of P4/5 will be going along to Dunbar Grammar on Wednesday 14th November, to take part in a basketball festival with other schools in the Dunbar cluster.  Stephen Duff(basketball development officer) visited the class a few weeks ago to go over some of the basic skills required, which we’ve been practising in our Monday gym lessons.   Children should bring along their indoor kit as usual.

egypt-thumbnail.jpgPrimary 4/5 will be visiting the Museum of Scotland on the 22nd of November, as part of our Environmental studies topic on Ancient Egyptians.  This should offer the class a good opportunity to consolidate all that they’ve been learning in class as well as get to handle some real Egyptian artefacts!  Permission letters will be sent out nearer the time.

We’ve started this term by learning about the Ancient Pharoahs.  The children will be working in groups of 3 to produce a powerpoint presentation.
