Electricity February 25, 2010

Posted by mswaney in : Primary 4 , 1 comment so far

P4 have been learning all about electricity. We know where electricity comes from, what conductors and insulators are, dangers of electricity and how to keep ourselves safe around it and how to build circuits.

We are enjoying our topic so far.

‘The most exciting part has been circuit building because it helps your science skills and your fine motor skill’ Lewis S

‘The most exciting part for me was learning where it comes from and how it gets ‘The best part for me was learning about the dangers of electricity because then you know not to do stuff that dangerous like wires that are broken.’ Brooke

‘I had a great time making the electricity game when we were learning about building a circuit using a battery, paper clip, screws, wires and a black foam board.’ Stevenimg_3984img_3986

Health Week in P4 February 12, 2010

P4 have been enjoying health week with all the activities we have taking part in.  We have been having breakfast every morning after ERIC and getting the chance to talk to our friends. We have tasted a lot of different things such as bagels, different types of fruit, fruit juice, yoghurt, toast and cornflakes.

On Monday we took part in Jammin Fitness with Andy and Team building games with Mr Lavery.

On Tuesday we had Gumboot dancing, which is when you dance with your wellies on; this type of dancing comes from South Africa.

We took part in a workshop called infectious grooves on Wednesday, which was African drumming and dancing. We also learned some sign language and took part in some Hindu relaxation.

On Thursday we got to chill out with our friend watching a movie and also learned how to street and break dance with Steven, some of us found it difficult but we had the confidence to give it a go!

To end our week we had a whole school assembly where people were very happy because they got their awards they worked hard for.

P4’s Coffee Morning February 4, 2010

Posted by mswaney in : Primary 4 , 3comments

P4 had a coffee morning to raise money for the people in Haiti that have been affected by the huge earthquake. We organised a tombola, a play area, a tea and coffee stall, a home baking stall and a play area for children under 5. The coffee morning was a big success and we all had a great time organising and running it. We felt very proud of ourselves because we managed to raise £285.23!

We would like to say a big THANK YOU to everyone who helped and supported us by donating tea, coffee, sugar, biscuits, prizes for the tombola and turning up on the day. We couldn’t have done it without you!

You might already know but P4 have been learning all about the environment. As part of our homework we had to make a musical instrument out of a variety of materials. Our focus was to reuse materials that we had at home instead of throwing them in the bin. We came up with some fabulous ideas. We used them to practice our 2,3 and 4 way rhythms that we have been learning in music.

The swimmers in P4 got their certificate last week. Some got a certificate for swimming 25m and some of us got certificates for swimming 10m. Most of us found it quite hard to start with because we couldn’t swim vey well at the beginning. We all tried our best to get better. At the end of the block most of us could swim without armbands. On the last week we got to play on the floats and it was good fun! “I felt proud” said Abbie B, “I felt really excited” said Ryan “I felt a bit scared” said sinnead.

Half of P4 have been learning how to swim. We go every Wednesday morning at 9.30am. We are learning back stroke, front crawl and breast stroke. We started learning in the wee pool and now we are all swimming in the big one. Some of us can swim without any help and some of us still need our armbands. We get to play all differnt types of games to warm up and at the end we are all very tired becuse we have worked hard.
