P4 do the teaching June 5, 2009
Posted by Scott Lavery in : Primary 2, Primary 4, Uncategorized , 1 comment so farToday Primary 4 spent time with Primary 2 teaching them how to make a PowerPoint presentation. The theme was Wallyford Primary School and the children were encouraged to add pictures and sound to their presentations to keep the audience interested. This was a fantastic learning opportunity for all children involved. The Primary 4’s were extremly responsible and were able to give the Primary 2’s the opportunity to experiment with support. Here are some examples of their presentations.

P2 Have Exciting News February 26, 2009
Posted by iburns in : Primary 2 , 6commentsRemember last week we told you that we were going to change our home corner? Well we have. It is now a Vet surgery. It is full of sick animals, it has a reception area and a waiting room. Now that we have built it, we are looking forward to working in it. We have split ourselves into five groups and each group will get time to work together in our surgery. We have spent a lot of time thinking about how to keep pets healthy and happy and we have made a big book full of our ideas. Mr Lavery was very impressed when he popped in for a visit. We have been learning about using adjectives to make our writing more interesting when we describe things. Today we wrote stories abut a poodle that had to go to the vet. They were very sad stories and nearly made Mrs Burns cry. We are learning to use books to help us get information. We have a ‘Cool Facts’ book and each week there is a challenge question. We have to look at the book, find the information and write the answer on a slip of paper. This week’s question is “Why can owls see what’s behind them?” Tune in next week and we will tell you the answer.
Bye for now from P2
P2 Logging in Again October 2, 2008
Posted by iburns in : Primary 2 , 13commentsThank you for all your comments. We have checked last week’s blog and we think that there are twelve ‘magic e’ words.
Mrs Beveridge, we were already on the case and had started planning our posters before we got your comment. Today we got to work creating them. Look out for them as you move around the school.
This week we have been investigating our sense of hearing. Jakke remembers closing his eyes and listening very carefully to hear different sounds all around us. We came up with lots of different ’sound words’. We did experiments to show how our ear drum shakes and moves the three bones inside our middle ear. Anya pretended to be the ear drum and Josh, Louise and Patrick pretended to be the bones.
In maths we have all been reading and writing number words up to one hundred.
Our Stars of the day this week have been Patrick, Ellie Young, Nicole and Chloe. Now there is only one person left and Craig is very excited about coming to school on Monday.
Remember to keep on collecting your coins for next Friday’s Money trail.
Learning new things in Primary 2 September 25, 2008
Posted by iburns in : Primary 2 , 7commentsWe have had great fun this week exploring our sense of tatse. Yesterday we tasted lots of different foods. Some were bitter, some were sour, some were sweet and some were salty. You should have seen our faces when we tasted bitter or sour food. We now know that we have little bumps on our tongues called taste buds and that these help us to taste the different tastes when we eat.
Last week we made collages using materials with different textures. We have put these up outside our classroom. They look fantastic!
We have also been finding out about ‘magic e’ words when we have been doing our reading in class.
Just a reminder to everybody about our Great Wallyford Money Trail on Friday 10th October. Please get busy collecting your spare coins and bring them to school on Friday 10th October. We are really excited about seeing how far around our school the trail will go.
By the way this week our Stars of the Day have been Sarah, Georgea, Amie and Connor.
Before we go, here is a wee challenge for you. How many ‘magic e’ words are there in this blog?
More News Again from P2 September 18, 2008
Posted by iburns in : Primary 2 , 4commentsHi everybody, although it has been a short week, we have still been pretty busy. We have been exploring our sense of smell this week. We had to guess what was in a container by only using our sense of smell. Some things were easy to tell, like toothpaste but some were difficult like milk. When Mrs Burns spilled the coffee by accident, everything else smelled of coffee. Now we know that coffee has a really strong smell.
in P.E. with Mrs Barclay we have been practising our football dribbles, our basketball dribbles, and we have been learning how to shoot in basketball.
In our imaginative writing, we have written stories about a big brown bear and a strange smell.
We have all started our Learning Journeys and are sending them out today to let people at home have a look at them.
Our Stars of the Day this week have been Ellie McNaughton, Ryan and Louise.
Our Pupil Council representatives are Josh and Amie and they went to their first meeting of the council this week. They are looking forward to working with the council to make Wallyford Primary a safer place to learn and play.
That’s all from us just now; more news next week.
Hello Again From P2 September 11, 2008
Posted by iburns in : Primary 2 , 2commentsHello everybody. Here are some of the things that we have been doing in school this week.
We have carried out some experiments to help us find out about our sense of touch. We had to use our hands to help us discover what Mrs Burns had hidden in the ‘feely bag.’ Sarah and Amie had to put their coats on when they were blindfolded. We learned that our sense of touch helps us explore the world around us. Then we all took our shoes off to find out how sensitive our feet were. We discovered that our backs are not very good at feeling with. This is because the skin on our backs does not have as many ‘feeler’ nerves as our fingers.
We are learning to use adjectives when writing stories. Today we wrote a story about an eagle.
We have been finding out a little bit about people who follow the Jewish and Muslim faiths.
The Stars of the Day this week have been; Joe, Erin Charleston, James and today it is Declan.
Speak to you again next week.

Posted by iburns in : Primary 2 , 1 comment so farThank you for all your commnts, we enjoyed reading them.
In art, we have been exploring how we can use line to create designs. Yesterday we put big sheets of paper up on the walls in the corridor and painted lots of squiggly lines on them. poor MrsFitzpatrick had to wipe the wall and floor when we had finished. thank you Mrs Fitzpatick.
You will be able to see our designs when you come to visit our classroom at next week’s Open Evening.
Today, we wrote stories about a ’scary spider’ and made Mrs burns really scared when she read them.
We are learning all about our 5 senses this term and looking forward to doing lots of experiments to help us discover how we use them to help us find out about the world around us.
We are all working hard to reach our learning goals and hopefully will have good news about people completing them when we write again next week.
This week our Stars of the day have been Morgan, Jack Anya and Erin B. The rest of us are keeping ouyr fingers crossed that our photos get opened up soon.
More news to follow next week.
