It has been a busy week in Primary 7. We have been writing letters to Mrs Beveridge to try to persuade her why a Fair Trade Tuck Shop would be a good idea.We found out lots of reasons why we should buy Fair Trade because if we don’t farmers are exploited and don’t get a regular wage so they can’t afford to buy food and medicines for their children or send them to school. We also learned that thousands of  children are living as slaves in the Ivory Coast harvesting  the cocoa beens that we use to make chocolate. We thought this was really unfair and were shocked that children could be used like this so that we can have cheap chocolate in this country.Did you know a cocoa farmer only get 1p for every bar of chocolate we eat and the chocolate companies make the most profit? (that was a rhetorical question, we were using those in our persuasive letters to Mrs Beveridge -it is a question that doesn’t need to be answered.

We have also been doing work with Judy Anderson our school nurse, on our Headstrong Programme . This week  we were  discussing  loss and berevement and it was quite sad it made us think about things that we have lost in our lives. We are still reading lots of books for our Accelerated Reader Quizzes and Mr Lavery came to the class to tell us how well we doing, everyone is trying to read a book at their level then get at least 85% on the quiz, lots of our class have been getting 100% which is fantastic.

I wish you lots of luck in persuading Mrs Beveridge that a Fair Trade Tuck Shop would be a good idea. Pupils in my school are trying to persuade our headteacher too. Thank you too for sharing some of your reasons. I will check back to see how you get on.

Hi, it’s me, Alanah.
Just wanted to say that I can’t wait until health week and that I am still helping out at home for Haiti.
Today I made £5 so thats cool.
Yesterday, I went to my Grans and helped and I went to shop for my Mum on Friday and got to keep the change.
I have 70 more pages of my book to read Breaking Dawn. Yes it’s a Twilight book. I am going to ask Mrs Harte to let me take the quiz tomorrow.
Anyway, my dinner is going to be ready soon so I better have a quick shower.
Bye! xxx Alanah.
