We have been learning about shapes. We were sorting shapes onto different plates. We know that circles, triangles, rectangles and squares are 2D shapes and spheres, cones, cubes, cuboids and cylinders are 3D shapes. How many shapes can you name in these photos?

We had lots of mums, dads and grannies at school this morning for Soft Start. We really enjoyed showing them what we have been learning and how many stamps we have on our charts! Brodi is really excited because she only has 1 stamp left before she gets her Silver Award, well done Brodi!

This week we have been working on out entry for the Art competition for the Honest Toun Association. We have used oil pastels to make a picture of Fa’side castle. We are still working on them, but they look really good.
The blue table are the winners of the table points this week, they had alot more than any of the other tables…so well done to them.
Mrs Stewart has been in twice this week to help us with out timestables champion, many of us got certificates this week, but none of us have got past the 3 times table yet!
In maths we have been learning about angles and right angles, we went out into the playground to see if we could find any right angles with our right angle testers that we had made. We found loads!
We have started to do Learning Journeys, which is a way of recording how well we are doing in school. Already some of us have pictures or comments in them. We have also set new learning goals which we have also written in our learning journeys. We will bring them home soon, so that we can add some things in them from home.
Congratulations to Cameron who became a big brother this week!! His baby sister was born on Monday, 6 minutes to midnight and she is called Corryn. She is beautiful, many of us saw her this morning.

We have done lots more this week, but we are very anxious to get on with our well deserved Golden Time, so we will fill you in more next week.

Yesterday we made a big colourful train. Each group made their own carriage, We used leather, tissue paper and felt coloured squares to make a collage for each carriage and then stuck on tinfoil windows. We tried really hard to work together nicely without arguing and to not mix up the colours of the different carriages. Come and have a look at our train!

We have also been doing writers craft this week. Keiran says this means we have been writing the second part of the story.

We have been enjoying the nice weather this week. Cameron enjoyed going outside for P.E. We did lots of running and throwing. James also enjoyed having circle time outside this week. We also had our fruit and drinks outside one day while we read all about dinosaurs. Thanks to Matthew for bringing in the book to share.

Thats all for now, see you next week.

Hello - Primary 2 Speaking April 23, 2009

Thanks to Ryan for coming up with the title for today’s blog.
We all had a good Easter break and are now settled back into school where we have been learning lots of new things.
This week Mrs Burns has been reading us a story called ‘Harry the Homeless Puppy.’ The author of this book is Holly Webb. It is quite a sad story just now, but we are all hoping that Harry has a happy ending. We will let you know how it finishes.
In art we were learning to draw Still-life pictures. We had vases of tulips, daffodils and primula drumsticks to draw using pastels. When we draw a still-life picture, we have to be careful to draw exactly what we see. After we drew our pictures, we mounted them on backing paper and displayed them on the wall outside our classsroom. Mrs Burns says the pictures are so good that our corridor is like a real Art Gallery.
Our topic this term is to find out about Our Local Area. We know that we go to school in the village of Wallyford which is near the town of Musselburgh. Most of us live in Wallyford, some of us live in Musselburgh and a few of us have to travel from towns like Tranent and Prestonpans. Today, we went for a walk along Salters Road which is the main road in Wallyford. We took photos of businesses along the road and of street signs with the names of streets where some of us live. We really enjoyed our walk and are looking forward to doing more exploring of our local area.
We will let you know how we get on next time.

Innerwick Camp April 22, 2009

On the 1st of April P5 went to camp at Innerwick for 2 nights. When we got there we split into groups. Each group took part in different activities. The activities were canoeing, rock climbing, gorge walking and team building activities. Each group took part in at least 3 of these activities over the 3 days.  “Canoeing  was really good except  from when you get wet” Jack D. ” Canoeing was great but the water was freezing” Scott. “Rock climbing was great fun but a bit scary when you looked down” Jack S. “Rock climbing was a bit difficult because you had to find the cracks to pull yourself up” Shaunna. “At some points the water was right up to you chest, I didn’t really like gorge walking” Calvin. “Gorge walking was good but the water was freezing cold” Lewis U. P5 thought camp was great fun and everyone enjoyed most of their activities. We were all a bit sad on our last day. We would love to go back!

WE LOVED CAMP!

P6 Rocking week April 2, 2009

P6 have had a really busy week and this is what we have been doing.

We have been learning about the changes in boys and girls bodies. We have also been learning about the emotional changes in both gender.

P6 went to a hockey festival. We all played really well, some people won their games. Fiona, the lady who organised it said we were great. In P.E p6 have been doing basketball and i think we have all been enjoying it!:) We have been doing a variety of homework. This week we had eight homework tasks that we could choose from, but we only have to do two. If we wanted to do more then we could.

P6 are orginising the Easter Service at St Ninians Church. We have all got a job that we have to do at the service, some of us are doing readings some of us are welcoming at the church door and the rest of the class is going to seat everyone. It will be very successful because we are organising it!

A few weeks ago we wrote to Gail in her new school. Today we all received a letter from Gail. We couldn’t believe that she has written a letter for all of us. She seems happy, but missing us.

Thats it. Enjoy the holidays!
