Maths
In maths we have been learning our 3 and 4 times tables. We have found this challenging but will keep trying to learn them!

We have been learning about Forces. We have been discussing push and pull. Siobhan told us about gravity. She read this in a book and shared it with the class.

In writer’s craft this week we had to continue the story. They were Halloween stories. Ben wrote a super writer’s craft and shared it with Mrs Beveridge and the class.

Today we had a whole school Halloween Parade. It was scary! All the children were dressed up!
Be safe when out and about Trick or Treating this weekend.

Team P4/5 October 31, 2008
Posted by cmunro in : Uncategorized , add a commentHappy Halloween from all of P4/5.
On Monday we went to visit John Muir’s Birthplace in Dunbar. We were inside the house he was born in and saw the house he moved to when he was a little older. It was right next door. Nye thought it was fun because there were 3 floors with different activities on each. Ryan liked the DVD because he learnt alot of new facts about John Muir. Reece was surprised to see the sign outside the birthplace that said “John Muir lived here”. It made the experience real. Samantha Buchanan liked going to see the statue of John Muir as a boy that is on the High Street. We now know that the statue was not stolen and that was an April Fools trick.
Jamie enjoyed the skiing but found it a little tricky and he fell down once. Kieran enjoyed the skiing but was disappointed that he didn’t get to go down the hill this week because they were practicing at the bottom of the slope. Dylan also disappointed that they were not able to start skiing on the Green slope straight away as that is where he had finished last year. James is looking forward to getting skiing on the yellow slope soon. We would like to thank Mrs Molak, Mrs Punton, Mr Stewart and Mr Thomson for coming with us and helping us.
On Thursday P5 went to a Badminton Festival at Musselburgh Sports Centre. They played lots of different games. Calvin and Niki won a water bottle for getting the highest scores.
We have got the Nintendo DS’s this term and are using them to help us with our mental maths. We are using the Brain Training programme each morning to wake our brains up. At school Jack’s brain age is 51 and he is very happy. Nicole was shocked because her brain age is 80 and she wants to lower it. Jamie thinks the DS is fun and he has found out that he was 75 and is now 70. Kieran has achieved flying speed on the Head Count game. Ryan has completed 100 calculations in 5 minutes and 34 seconds.
Today some of the pupils and staff dressed up for the Halloween Parade.
We are going to Woodhall bing on Monday the 3rd of November. Please remember your packed lunches and lots of warm clothing.
Bye for now.

This week we had a supply teacher, she was called Mrs Simkins. We had her for 2 days because Mrs Harte was off sick. We were learning about origins of Hallowe’en and we found out about why Hallowe’en started. We used this to write a report and a poem about Hallowe’en.
HAVE A HAPPY HALLOWE’EN

P2 Are Back Again October 30, 2008
Posted by iburns in : Uncategorized , 4commentsWe have been learning this week about ‘common nouns.’ We know that a common noun is something that you can take a picture of. Everybody got to take the camera around the classroom and to take photographs of common nouns for our wall display.
Yesterday we counted the bags of money from the money trail before they went to the bank. We put the bags into boxes and tried to lift them, they were very heavy.
It is nearly Hallowe’en and we have been writing spooky stories today. Mrs Burns got really scared when she was reading some of them. We have been painting leaves for an autumn tree and this afternoon we are going to make some spooky, flying hallowe’en visitors. This term we are going to be learning about day and night and all the planets. Yesterday Jack was able to tell us all that the sun is a ball of burning gas. We are looking forward to finding out lots more things about the planets.
Primary 4 Update October 28, 2008
Posted by Scott Lavery in : Primary 4 , 1 comment so farPrimary 4 would like to welcome Mr Hardie to our class. He is teaching us on a Tuesday and Wednesday.
We have been very busy planning to make our classroom into a science lab. We are going to make paper glasses, posters and banners and change our golden time into science time. More on this will follow in the next few weeks. We have been planning our own mini experiments which we will be carrying out in class. We are also designing our own experiments for homework around the topic of the senses.
We have all set our new learning goals for the term. These are focusing on our writing and how we can improve this.
We are all very excited about making our classroom into a science lab and are also looking forward to skiing this week.
Sunday Outing October 27, 2008
Posted by dbeveridge in : Head Teacher , add a commentThe school was given 12 free tickets for a Dr Who concert by the Scottish Opera Orchestra.
The concert was at the Queens Hall in Edinburgh.
Unfortunately I could not offer this chance to any other class than P7.
Declan, Daniel Clyde, Nicole, Kerry, Terry, Craig, Liam Wilkie, and Holly all came along. We met at school for 14.15 and then had transport provided to take us to Edinburgh. Miss Allan met us at the Queens Hall. It was great fun. A man pretended that he was The Doctor and took us time travelling. The orchestra played all kinds of tunes, including Star Wars, The Entrance of the Queen of Sheba and YMCA!!
We got to clap along and shout out information to The Doctor.
In the minibus on the way home we sang songs!
All in all, I think everyone enjoyed themselves.
I see that FAME the musical is coming to Edinburgh in January. I have asked the office to check the price of tickets. Maybe we could go along to see it on a Saturday.
Nursery News October 24, 2008
Posted by slindsay in : Uncategorized , 2commentsAt last I have learned how to do a slideshow! You will see from the photos that we were saying a big thank you to Darren Nisbet Daniel Clyde Ashley Cannon Shelley Edmond Jack Buchan Craig Houghton Terry Fairgrieve and Miss Allan. They joined together with the Nursery to make the fantastic Welcome Sign outside our rooms. It says welcome in lots of different languages. Miss Turner also helped us to write welcome in British Sign Language. Please come and have a look.
They also came into our class and taught us how to sing welcome everybody. They were fantastic.
You will see from the other photos that we had some other visitors in the Nursery. Stephen and Andrews dad Mr May came into Nursery and talked to us about how to look after a rabbit. The most exciting bit was that he brought Sally the black rabbit and Lightning the white rabbit to show us.
Thank you
