My Scientific Calculator
Okay, so the truth is that I haven’t updated this blog in a very long time. What I’ve been doing in the meantime is designing an onscreen scientific calculator for interactive whiteboards… and here it is!

My calculator not only looks like the real thing, but can evaluate complex mathematical expressions using order of operations, for example (7+4)×5.2–3.9÷8.
Trust me, to Maths teachers this is very important! You can find out more on my website at www.timschmitz.co.uk.
Hi Tim,
I like your calculator. I’d like to see rollover feature, where I rollover with my mouse (or Activpen) and it tells me what it does. I’m NOT a math teacher, and have no idea what each button does. I DO sell Promethean over in the states. I will be showing your calculator to schools. I have one school with 15 math teachers that just got Promethean boards.
Hi Tom, thanks for your comments! I’m pleased you found my calculator interesting.
I really like your suggestion about the ‘rollover’ tool tips idea… I’ll let you know when I get it working! Watch this space :o)
Tim
I also like your calculator!
Here is the one I have been using http://www.ilc.org/cfmx/AAT/ToolsAndResources/Tools/scicalc/calc.cfm
It has ‘tool tips’ and ‘tutorials’.
Casio have a nice simulation of their calculator.
I like yours ’cause the keys are clear and its a bit more like the current calculators.
What do the purple arrows do?
I had an activboard installed in my classroom this week and found your site though chance. Although I am working with primary students you have solved a few of my questions with your tools that you have. The calculator is pretty cool although I won’t be using it this year with my little ones!
