St Andrew’s Day

On St Andrew’s Day Primary 7 raised up the Scottish Saltire flag. This was to start the school’s week of celebrations to mark ‘Homecoming’ to the Burgh Primary school.

Come home to the Burgh

The Burgh is celebrating Homecoming with a week of activities related to all things Scottish from Monday 30th November to Saturday 5th December. The week will begin with a day of Scottish Country Dancing for all children from Nursery to P7. On Tuesday and Wednesday parents will be invited into school to take part in Scottish art activities, including designing a tartan for the school and producing a Welcome Banner which represents all of the different nationalities of the families at the Burgh. The children will also be baking shortbread using the recipe from the Burgh Recipe Book, which will be launched officially on Saturday 5th December at the Christmas Fair. On Thursday, we will be opening our doors to the community and would especially like to invite ex-pupils and staff to pop in to view an exhibition of school photos from days gone by. Please help us by looking out your old school photos and lending them to us for the exhibition. We will look after them and make sure that they are returned to you the following week. Our P7 pupils will be on hand to offer guided tours of the school and will be serving refreshments from the Recipe Book. Our visiting music specialist will also be in school on Thursday and visitors to the school will be welcome to join in with our classes as they sing songs with a Scottish flavour. On Friday, Golden Time will have a Scottish theme. The week will end on Saturday 5th December with the Christmas Fair and the official launch of the Burgh Recipe Book. The exhibition of school photos will also be available for anyone who misses it during the week. Please continue to check our website for further details or call the school on 0131 665 3407 to find out how you can get involved. Photos, which should be clearly labelled, can be handed into the school office any time. Come home to the Burgh. We are looking forward to seeing you!

P7 - Lights, Camera, Action

Today P7 were told that they were being given the opportunity to produce a professional movie. The children will not only have acting roles they will also have to write the script, produce and advertise the movie. The finished product will be premiered at the Filmhouse Theatre in Edinburgh after the Easter holidays next year.

Keep checking this website for further information.

REMEMBRANCE DAY

On the second of November Primary 7 visited Lady Haig’s poppy factory in Edinbugh. Primary 7 learned  why  the poppy is the symbol of Remembrance in Scotland. The children made poppies during their visit and sold them in school  to help raise money for the appeal.   The children managed to raise £120 which was sent to the Lady Haig appeal.

Burgh School Recipe Book

Does your child often ask ‘What’s for tea?’

If so why don’t you buy a copy of the Burgh School Recipe Book. The book contains over 100 pages of fabulous recipes collected from pupils and staff. It is beautifully illustrated by the children’s drawings, creating a unique, practical and useful keepsake. The book will be available to buy at the Christmas fair on 5th December for £7 each or 3 for £20. We are only producing a limited number of these books, so why not order your copy now by contacting the school on 0131 665 3407.

Flag Ceremony

Primary Seven pupils showed mixed emotions during the June Flag Ceremony, which marked the end of their time at the Burgh. The children were piped through the school to the flag pole by Tom from Lorretto Independent School, where they proceeded to lower the Burgh flag and pass it on to the Primary Six children for safe keeping until the start of session 2009/10. Peter MacKenzie who attended the ceremony shared a few words of wisdom with all of the pupils. Everyone at the Burgh will miss the class of 2009 and wish them every success in the next stage of their education.
