NQT ICT Induction Day 2008
Today we held our NQT ICT induction day. During the course of the day each Probationer attended four separate sessions. These were as follows:
Intro To ICT in East Lothian: Karen Robertson- Online Publishing- hosted by David and I
- Glow: Martin Brown and Karen-Anne McAlpine (Glow team)
- Child Protection: Education and Children’s Services
David and I hosted four sessions on Edubuzz. Here is a brief summary of the main links we mentioned:
Edubuzz Support Wiki- Full of guidelines, online support documents and East Lothian’s new Responsible Use Policy. You can also download official Staff and Pupil permission forms here.
Flickr- Sharing photos online that are of a very high quality and free of copyright (remember to check the creative commons of each image)
Zamzar- Converting Youtube or Google videos to a downloaded file which can then be used from within schools.
Teachertube- An American site that has a growing number of excellent clips that are accessible from schools.
Don Ledingham- Acting Director of Education and Children’s Services in East Lothian.
It was great to see and share the enthusiasm that these new teachers have. One pleasant surprise that I have to mention was meeting Michael Scott. Michael was a pupil of mine when I taught at St Augustine’s RC High School and he has joined Musselburgh Grammar School’s PE Department for his NQT year. Michael is the first pupil that I have taught who has followed my footsteps into the teaching profession! How time flys!
