Factoid 15: Sartorial?

I haven’t posted a factoid for a while so I thought I would share this. At the weekend I decided to take a trip to Marks and Spencer. I wasn’t really looking for anything in particular- just browsing when I stumbled across this tie…..

…..Well, I mean it would have been wrong not too :P

However, the tie is classed as a Sartorial Tie. Sartorial? I asked myself. I thought it must have been something to do with the material or the theme. I brought this up with my colleagues over coffee yesterday. None of us were really sure of the exact meaning so we consulted the dictionary:

Adjective

1. of or pertaining to tailors or their trade: sartorial workmanship.

2. of or pertaining to clothing or style or manner of dress: sartorial splendor.

What is it they say? You learn something new everyday!

Note: OB and AB- These ties can be purchased from M&S at the Gyle ;-)

  • You’re obviously drawn to Glow no matter what Tess….

  • Tess - having never been to the Gyle, I’m off to check M&S in Braehead asap! This could totally change my attire for Mentor training events… ;-)

  • Let me know if you want me to pop into the Gyle if Braehead are out!

    ;-)

I think Martin and Paul need one too!

  • Well, for all those who are interested, I got a Sartorial suit as my birthday suit (i.e. birthday *present* suit) last month. It’s a beautiful cut and everyone seems to pick me up on it. Either that, or they’re just shocked to see me in a suit and tie.

The denoting factor above all is the cut - it’s an English cut so you HAVE to make sure you buy English cut ties (no narrow Italian stuff here). I’ll try to get a pic of my in said suit onto Flickr.

  • ‘Said suit’ and Glow tie is a must though Ewan :-)

‘Team tie’ - just who will be the first Glow Ed to get one…?

  • I think they will look great!

Currently sitting in a German service station with a dodgey key board…. Not Sure how to do a smiley….

    Tess

  • Hmm… Could there be an extra “i” in AB’s last post?

Any news on the proposed Glow tartan? I’d love to see the Eds dressed up for next St Andrew’s day.

  • Another factoid to add to your list: the sartorius muscle is the longest in the human body, and is named after tailors - it runs from the outside of the hip across the leg and joins on below the knee. It’s the muscle that gets stretched if you sit in a position with one ankle on top of the other knee, which is the way tailors sit.
    :-)

  • A glow tartan!

I will get the team on the case!

    :-)

  • OMG - - I think I’ve just identified the muscle which is telling me I’ve been sitting badly in a meeting! Ouch! A sore sartorius!

  • Nice Tie!
