Grange Hill- Gone But Never Forgotten!

I was gutted to find out that Grange Hill is due to be axed by the Beeb. Its first broadcast was in 1978 and exactly three decades later, it is coming to an end.

:-(

Controller of CBBC Anne Gilchrist brought to an end much speculation about the future of the series.

“The lives of children have changed a great deal since Grange Hill began and we owe it to them to reflect this”.

As a child and teenager, I was an avid fan of the 1705 hrs slot that came after John Craven’s News round (I am still a Sunday Country-file fan ;-)    ). Indeed I have the theme tune as my mobile phone ring tone!

It is the end of an era. I guess that the role Grange Hill took has largely been replaced with other programmes such as Holly oaks- which in its own right certainly deserves merit. Current issues that face the youth of today are very well approached.

Although they are now gone, the days of Mr Bronson (he still scares me!) and Mrs McClusky (an inspiration!) will never be forgotten!

Have a trawl through the characters from the three decades here.

Recognise any young faces?

;-)

There are lots of clips on youtube, but here is one of my favourite:
