Factoid 14: Music From The 1980’s

This isn’t really a factoid, but it is fact- I love 80s music!

Anyone who knows me well or who has travelled in my car will verify that! I like all types of music ranging from Debussy through to synthesised dance music. However, I have a particular passion for music from the 80’s and the guitars.

Over the weekend I took a jaunt to HMV.Following a good rummage through the shelves I decided to purchase a few albums and a compilation. I thought I would share my favourite ten hits from the 80’s this evening(chronological order though I am really enjoying Nik Kershaw right now!).

The links are on YouTube so you might want to check them at home:

1982: Eye Of The Tiger- Survivor- Come on Rocky!- But is that Gok Wan?

1982?: Family Man- Hall and Oates- Footage shot in a random living room!-Though Maneater should probably get a mention here too (notice the C64 logo at the beginning of Maneater- Nice!).

1983: Wouldn’t It Be Good- Nik Kershaw- I wonder what application Nik used to make his videos- I don’t think Kudlian Soft were around then!- Is that a ZX Spectrum he is clutching? LoL!

1983: Gold- Spandau Ballet- “GOLD! Always believe in your soul!…You’ve got the power to know!…You’re indestructible!!!!!!..”

1983: What A Feeling- Flashdance- Also a favourite of a few colleagues :-) - I used to love playing this one with the school orchestra (on flute). Get the leg-warmers on!!!

1984: Band Aid- Still stops me in my steps (I have the original 45 single LP somewhere!)

1984: Rebel Yell- Billy Idol- Who would have guessed his choice of hair colour would become popular again!

1985: Take On Me- Aha!-Could it have been shot on the Sony PSP’s Sketch mode?- and what is that man doing with the Monkey Wrench?

1987?: 500 Miles- The Proclaimers-Still an all time favourite at Murrayfield- my fellow Fife friends from Auchtermuchty

1987: Running Up That Hill- Kate Bush- Bit of a Space-cadet but such a dynamic voice! (No harm in it, but you wouldn’t catch me in a leotard! Lol!!! )

There are  so many more fantastic hits and bands that I have not mentioned- Bangles, Yazz, Elton J, George M, Diana R, Annie L, Phil Collins….. and the list goes on!!!

The 80’s… What and decade!  :P
