I had forgotten to mention this in my last post- but it is such a classic example of the ‘Digital Immigrant/Native’ Society in which we live, it merits its own.

The pupils at Camie Primary School were using iMovie to edit their video footage (timing and title slides to enhance etc). Following a brief lesson on how to use the application by their class teacher, I opted to join one of the pupil groups whilst they worked on the task.

This was the dialogue:

Miss W: “So, how are you getting on?”   

Child X: “Not bad, but we are stuck on the titles”   

Miss W: “Ok, let’s have a look”  

(Thinking that they were struggling to use the technology, I started to run through the help-sheet- only to be followed by the most vacant of looks…)

Child Y: “No!!! We have done that bit!… We are trying to agree on what we want our titles to say!..  We just can’t decide what to type in!!!”
