BETT 2008- Studywiz

Studywiz:

Studywiz is a dynamic Becta approved learning platform for schools. It is a key tool in transforming education to address 21st century needs”.

I am aware that some Authorities are starting to use this Virtual Learning Environment (VLE) . As they had a stand at BETT I was curious and just had to explore.

My Studywiz guide was a very amicable young man called ‘Jack’. Jack gave me a tour of the VLE. He showed me the various components including a number of Teacher/Student forums (pupil council etc), the online ‘diary’ and email system. I also asked him about privileges. The whole VLE is moderated. Privileges can be given or removed within couple of clicks. Jack also mentioned collaboration with other schools via Studywiz. His enthusiasm for this VLE soon became shared!

I only had around quarter of an hour to see Studywiz in action and I have to say I was pretty impressed!

I would like to thank Jack for his tour; he is a superb ambassador for Studywiz and his school!

There is a lot more to see on the Studywiz website including a podcast introduction by CEO Geoff Elwood.

  • Study Wizz is used in a lot of LA’s in England and also as one of the main VLA’s in the Scottish private Sector. How do you think it compares to the VLA in GLOW?

  • OB- I think it is too early to say. I will get back to you on this one…

  • Hi Tessa,

A number of Edinburgh schools already have access to Studywiz. I have been using this VLE at ‘The Royal High Primary’ for over two years with pupils from P3 to P7 with great success. Two of our P7 pupils were demonstrating on the Studywiz stand at BETT on the Thursday and Friday.

If you wish a tour of our deployment just let me know.

  • Hi Janet.

I didn’t meet your pupils at BETT, however a tour would be fabulous at some point. I have your email address so I will be in touch.

    Thanks,

    Tess :-)
