Interactive White Board (IWB) Twightlight In East Lothian
As there has been a huge increase in the number of classrooms that now have Interactive White Boards (IWBs) in East Lothian, we are holding a number of twilight sessions. Staff can opt into these sessions. This evening we held a session based at Knox Academy. The session was hosted by Janice Black and John Self from Promethean (the company that has supplied the white boards).
I have used a white board only occasionally in the past as I am/was not fortunate enough to have one in my own room (as yet). Like any popular software it isn’t too difficult to learn through trial and error. However, there is nothing better than being taken through the various components, step by step, bit by bit. And that is exactly what today’s tutorial/ session was about. Here are a few points that were covered this evening:
- The very basics of configuring the board with the projector.
- Using and altering the basic tools.
- Saving and accessing files (some of which were web based).
- Using text recognition (writing with the pen and converting into text).
- Integrating White Boards and PowerPoint.
During the course of the session a number of very useful sites were mentioned. They are full of tips and resources:
Promethean Planet
Promethean Learning
The session was very well received with very positive feedback. On behalf of East Lothian I would like to thank Janice Black and John Self for their very worth while, informative (and interactive) presentations. I would also like to thank the catering staff at Knox for providing refreshments.
If you are a teacher in East Lothian, and you haven’t already, I would highly recommend that you signup for one of these sessions.
