The Scottish Learning Festival ‘07′
Although I was only able to attend the Scottish Learning Festival for one day, I was able to attend a number of fantastic seminars and the brilliant TeachMeet. One particular seminar which I found really useful was Derek Robertson’s. Derek is currently on a secondment with Learning and Teaching Scotland. During the course of the seminar Derek talked about his research into using games to enhance learning. He also showed us some fantastic footage of primary pupils actively using games in schools as learning tools. Gordon McKinlay (QIO-Renfrewshire) has given a good write up of Derek’s seminar here.
There was so much to do and see at the Festival, I simply don’t have time to write it all up, however, here are a few sites may interest you:
Ewan McIntosh has set up a weblog called ‘Connected Live’ This blog has a number of contributors including myself. If you read LTScotland’s ‘Connected’ magazine, be sure to pop the link into your aggregator.
Derek Robertson has also set up a weblog called ‘Consolarium’. On this weblog the most recent reviews and experiences of using gaming to enhance learning are being discussed.
Neil Winton and Gordon McKinlay both give excellent accounts of the seminars and talks that they attended.
Images of the Festival can be found here.
In addition to all the seminars and talks, it was fantastic to personally meet so many of the people behind the webpages I read (too many to mention!).
Well done to all involved in the planning, organising and managing of the Scottish Learning Festival this year. It was an immense success.
