TeachMeet 07- Glow
With the summer holiday behind us, today saw the first teaching day of the summer term here in East Lothian. We have all returned back to school bright eyed and bushy tailed ready to tackle the year ahead. One particular question that I have been asked by a number of colleagues is ‘What is the latest with Glow?’
During the last few weeks of the previous session as you will be aware we, at Knox Academy, piloted the phase 3 of Glow- The VLE. Following this pilot we gave our routine feedback to RM and LTS (the bodies behind Glow). Over the summer, the portal has been worked on extensively and a Gateway review was carried out by the Scottish Executive. Though I have not had any formal confirmation, I understand that the formal rollout of Glow will happen after the Scottish Learning Festival on the 19th and 20th of September this year. Though the portal will be available, it will be up to the individual Local Authorities to implement it within schools. Here in East Lothian, we are already planning ahead with this (more to come on that very soon!).
For anyone interested in finding out more about Glow, there are a number of seminars being held at the Scottish Learning Festival, including an Introduction and an insight into the more technical aspects. During the evening of the 19th, the ‘TeachMeet 07’ will be held. This meeting is open to all individuals who have an interest in Education and more specifically the developments of ICT throughout Scotland (No surprises as to what I am going to talk about! ;-)). If you are interested in finding out more, please Click on the link below. If you would like to sign up, please add your name onto the list (or drop me a message or comment and I will add you on). As I mentioned, it is open to anybody… The more the merrier!

Hi Tessa
Like your blog! Like you, I have signed up to speak at TeachMeet(my first time at such an event) With my geography hat on, I’ve started making up a Google map of where in Scotland the education bloggers I read come from, including yours, -details and a link to the map is on the Geography page of my blog.

Thanks Jim!
I did see that you had added me to that Google map! I actually meant to link it up last night, but will do so this evening. It is very interesting to see how many staff are using such webpages to communicate and share now. Isn’t Web 2.0 just great!
I look forward to meeting you in person at SETT.
Tess
