Factoid Number 6

Whilst at the Touch Rugby series at Geroge Heriot’s RFC this evening I decided to savour one of my favourite refreshments, Corona Beer. As always, I was offered a slice of Lime to place in the neck of the bottle. I wouldn’t quite class this as sacrilege, but I have often wondered why one would do this to a bottle of beer? In the past, I have always gone with the notion that:
‘Well, the Mexicans do it so I will too!’
Tonight, I decided to enquire. Interestingly it has nothing to do with enhancing flavour!
Why do they put a slice of citrus lime into the beer?
As always, there is an element of Science to this ![]()

Am enjoying your factoids having just discovered your blog. I also heard that the lime sterilises the mouth of the bottle! i.e. the acidic PH - could be a myth!
