Factoid 4: 1001 Uses Of Vinegar (AH Investigation?)

There are many great book shops in Edinburgh aside to Waterstone’s. My favorites include the secondhand shops in Stockbridge and on the Bridges. They are great for trawling if you don’t really know what you are looking for, but if you do, they are probably useless (I hope you know what I mean). One particular shop that I feel can be somewhat snubbed is ‘TheWorks’. My nearest store is in the St James centre. Yesterday, I was passing and decided to have a rummage. I stumbled across three fantastic finds. I will give you a brief outline of each as I read them. The first is called ‘1001 uses of Vinegar’. I had no idea of how many uses vinegar actually has, or indeed how many varieties of vinegar, and the properties of each, there are!
(Copied and pasted)
Tone facial skin with a solution of equal parts white distilled vinegar and water. This will help reduce the signs of ageing.Soothe a bee or jellyfish sting. Dot or douce the irritated area with vinegar and relieve itching.
Soothe a sore throat. Put a teaspoon of vinegar in a glass of water. Gargle, then swallow.
Fight dandruff, by rinsing with vinegar and 2 cups of warm water, after shampooing.
Deodorize a room filled with cigarette smoke or paint fumes. Place a small bowl of vinegar in the room.
Remove decals or bumper stickers by soaking a cloth in Vinegar and cover the decal or bumper sticker for several minutes until the vinegar soaks in. The decals and bumper stickers should peel off easily.
Cleaning windows by using undiluted Vinegar in a spray bottle. Dry offwith newspaper.
Prevent patching plaster from drying by adding one tablespoon vinegar to the water when mixing to slow the drying time.
Plastic can be cleaned and made anti-static by wiping down with a solution of 1 tablespoon of distilled vinegar to 1 gallon of water. This will cut down on the plastics’ tendency to attract dust.
Remove odors from a lunch box by placing inside a slice of bread that has been soaked in white distilled vinegar. Leave overnight.
Reduced from £9.99p to £3
What a bargain!
I have a number of theories in life, one being:
‘Every thing can be mended or temporarily rectified by one of two things; the first being Duct Tape’.
It now appears that should be one of three!
I feel an Advanced Higher Biology Investigation idea coming on!
In the meantime, I am off to sort out the wrinkles!

If you’re using Windows, you can get around the lack of a £ key by holding Alt and typing 0163 on the keypad (doesn’t work if you use the numbers on the main part of the keyboard). Don’t know if this translates at all into MacOS or Linux.

If all else fails, hold down Alt and press 1 then 5 then 6. That enters the extended ASCII code for the £ sign, so will work even if the keyboard doesn’t have the symbol. Hopefully you can twiddle about with Windows settings and come up with something easier!
