Knox Rugby Victory!

This afternoon I accompanied the Knox senior rugby team to Mearns Castle High School in Glasgow. The winners of today’s match were to progress on to the quarter finals of the Lawrence Bell Under 18’s shield. Unfortunately we were a number of players down for a variety of reasons. As he has been selected for the Edinburgh Squad, Rodge was unable to play today. However, he still attended to captain the team and also used his accurate visual skills to help out as a touch/line judge during the game.
The final score was 24-14 to Knox. A victory was to be had, but not without an exciting battle. The first half saw some excellent team work. After a number of superb passes by Turnie, Lisle and Elliot, Simi scored our first try. This was then successfully converted by Cav. This was followed by two further trys by Bissett. With a score of 17, the lads were well up on the game towards half time. During the second half, Mearns were to vigilantly strike back with two trys and successful conversions bringing the score to 17-14. The pressure was now on the Knox boys to keep ahead of the game.

Following some excellent tackles by Jock, Gus penetrated Mearns defence and scored us our fourth try. This was successfully converted by Cav. You can see his conversion in this clip.
The final score was 24-14 to Knox.
Man of the match went to Gus
Well-done chaps! You were a credit to Knox both on and off the pitch today. Bring on the Lawrence Bell Quarter finals!
On behalf of Knox Academy I would like to thank Ken Gibson and the Rugby team at Mearns Castle High School for their excellent hospitality this afternoon.

Archie tells me the boys were most impressed with your rugby managerial skills. Your match reporting skills are also great. Looks like the 1st fifteen have a valuable new supporter! Go Knox…….
