Higher Biology Rodent Talk

Today, at Knox Academy, we were happy to give a warm welcome to East Lothian’s Environmental Health Officer, Scott Hood. We invited Scott to give a presentation to our Higher Biology pupils, on the topic of ‘Adaptations In Rodents’. We were very pleased when he accepted the invitation.
His presentation was particularly relevant to the Higher Biology Unit 2. Scott’s main field of work is dealing with controlling a variety of named pests including seagulls and wasps. His Talk today was on ‘Adaptations In Rodents’; rats. He covered many facts including how the rodent mouth has adapted to allow it to knaw, how its senses are highly developed, learned behaviours and diseases. I for one was enlightened with many new facts today. I was especially interested in the guard hairs that these creatures use to memorise their surroundings. Scott also brought in a number of skulls for the pupils to analyse.
My pupils, colleagues and I thoroughly enjoyed today’s presentation. On behalf of Knox
Academy, I would like to thank Scott for his time today.
