About us

Sustaining Dunbar provides a network to enable anyone who shares our concerns to make contact with each other and to work together to build a sustainable future for our community.

Our Objects

The objects of ‘Sustaining Dunbar’ are:

·        To raise public awareness in the Dunbar area of the challenges posed by Climate Change and resource depletion, particularly Peak Oil.

·      To encourage activity and contributions from all sectors of the local community in envisioning and planning for a locally resilient and sustainable, zero-carbon, zero-waste future for Dunbar.

·        To focus on opportunities and solutions and on developing a sense of collective purpose and action.

·        To identify and support groups and individuals who are especially vulnerable to the threats posed by climate change and resource depletion.

·        To work with other transition initiatives and the UK Transition Network and similar organisations to research and develop strategies and solutions which empower individuals, groups and businesses to become sustainable and resilient.

Areas of Activity

We currently have 5 subgroups focusing on Energy, Enterprise, Food, Transport and Resource use. The groups are autonomous and informally structured but meet up regularly to co-ordinate and develop the overall strategy. To find out more click on the relevant tab above.  If you would like to form a sub-group to explore another area of interest, such as health or education, please get in touch.

Join in!

You can take part in the discussions by subscribing to our Yahoo newsgroup. Or you can leave comments on any of the subgroup’s webpages.

Our Draft Constitution is available here.
