Viridor Incinerator Update February 23, 2008

Posted by Morag Haddow in : Resource Group News , trackback

Viridor’s incinerator proposal is now officially registered with East Lothian Council and they have also applied to the Scottish Environmental Protection Agency (SEPA) for a PPC (Pollution Prevention and Control) permit.

The PPC permit will consider things like the emissions from the plant and its energy efficiency - which under Richard Lochead’s recent ministerial statement must now be at least 60% overall - which means that they will need to show how they are going to productively use 50MW of heat on top of the 34MW of electricity that the plant will produce. The ‘heat plan’ that they have submitted doesn’t actually contain any figures but talks about using the heat for soft fruit growing and a fish farm and even mentions selling heat to Torness, which seems bizarre. See the SEPA website for more information. We only have until the end of February to make representations to SEPA which must be in writing to: The Registrar, SEPA, Clearwater House, Avenue North, Heriott Watt Research Park, Riccarton, Edinburgh, EH14 2PA

Please write as soon as possible!

Also, please do write to East Lothian Council and Dunbar Community Council, see IRATE’s website for more information: www.keepdunnysunny.com.
