A Curriculum For Excellence

Scotland is currently pursuing its biggest education reform programme for a generation under the Scottish Executive’s Ambitious, Excellent Schools agenda. The Curriculum for Excellence is central to this reform agenda. At its heart, it is the programme of work that is reviewing the current curriculum. It aims to provide:

  • More freedom for teachers
  • Greater choice and opportunity for pupils
  • A single coherent curriculum for all young people aged 3-18.

Learning Teaching Scotland

  • Learning and Teaching Scotland is the main organisation for the development and support of the Scottish curriculum.
  • LTScotland works with the Scottish Executive and education authorities to take forward the national education improvement agenda.
  • Becta

    Becta leads the national drive to improve learning through technology. They do this by working with industry to ensure that they have the right technology for education in place. They also support the education sector to make the best use of technology so that every learner in the UK is able to benefit from its advantages and achieves the best they can.

    The National Priorities

    The ‘National Priorities In Education’, as approved by the Scottish Parliament in December 2000, are defined under the following headings:

    • Framework for Learning
    • Inclusion and Equality
    • Values and Citizenship
    • Learning for Life

    Eco-Schools Scotland

    Eco Schools is an international initiative designed to encourage whole-school action for the environment. It is an environmental management tool, learning resource and recognised award scheme.
