Primary 1

Week Ending 21st November 2008

This week Primary 1 officially started the Cool in School programme.

We met Tom, who was very excited, but also a little nervous, about his first day at school. When he got to school he saw a few faces he recognised from his street. He was paired up with another boy who was going to help him from the day, but at playtime that boy ran into the playground without Tom. When Tom got into the playground he wasn’t sure what to do, so he tried joining in with a group of boys were playing football. He ran up to the ball and kicked as hard as he could, but missed. The boys laughed at Tom, so he went to sit alone on some steps. Then, the boy who was supposed to be helping Tom, came over and teased Tom over what had happened. Tom felt very sad and embarrassed.

We talked about things that make us sad in school. Primary 1 were all very honest with their contributions about what made them sad in school, but also very sensitive to the feelings of others.

I was delighted that this first session went so well and that I have such cool primary 1 children in my class.

i really liked making bread this week, i also liked baking cakes, they were really tasty. The coffee morning was good as the money raised went to a good charity.

Thank you Primary 1 for letting me come with you on your Autumn walk. Even though it was raining a little bit (!). We all had such fun looking at the leaves, jumping in the puddles and making shelters under the big trees. You were all exceptionally well behaved, very responsible citizens and a credit to your teacher and Stoneyhill School.
I am looking forward to our next outing.
