WELCOME BACK

Despite the fact that the weather has not been very ’summery’, the summer holidays are at an end and we are at the start of a new session. For some pupils this will be their first term at Stoneyhill and for others it will be the start of their final year. We wish all pupils and staff, old and new, a successful session and look forward to working together.

Teddy Bears’ Picnic

If you came down to Stoneyhill today, you were in for a big surprise!  Primary 1 children welcomed the new Primary 1 class and their teddies (and dinosaurs, giraffes, monkeys and dogs) to Stoneyhill, by holding two picnics earlier today.  Each Primary 1 child collected their guest from nursery and took them along to the GP room.  We listened to “The Teddy Bears’ Picnic” story, sang songs and then tucked into a wonderful picnic. Even the toys enjoyed themselves!

Silver Award

Andrew’s Silver Award

A budding Mathematician, Andrew Gibson, aged 12, who attends Stoneyhill Primary School in Musselburgh received a silver award from the Scottish Mathematical Council at an award ceremony held at Edinburgh University on Friday 6th June 2008.

Andrew’s primary seven teacher, Laura Mercer and his parents attended the ceremony. Depute Head Teacher, Hazel Rae, who sent in Andrew’s entries throughout the session asked Andrew what his reaction was to winning. He said “I was very surprised to receive the award and felt proud of myself.” “I  liked the way that the challenges were spread over the year so you could do a bit at a time.” He continued, “I really like Maths and I’ve always wanted to be an accountant.”

Seonaid McGillivray, Head Teacher, congratulates Andrew and will celebrate his success at a whole school assembly on Friday 13th June.

THE SUMMER FAIR

IRB 7s Rugby Festival

Congratulations to the Stoneyhill TAG team who were playing at Murrayfield last weekend. They had a great day with all the entertainment, playing in the Scottish Schools TAG tournament and even meeting the Scottish international players. They came joint 2nd and scored highly for Fair Play points! A fantastic result. Mrs Foley and Mrs Goodlet said that they were a credit to the school both in their behaviour and playing attitude. The team will write a further post next week with all the highlights but I just wanted to say a huge well done and thank you to all children and adults involved in making this day such a success.

The team have donated a new Gilbert rugby ball which has been signed by the 7s Scotland team to the P5 silent auction :-)
