Health Week

April 28th, 2008 by jpaterson

Last week was our official ‘Health Week’ where we focused on things we can do to look after ourselves to keep us healthy. We had a visit from Carol Golightly, the community dental nurse.  Did you know that you should not rinse your mouth after brushing!  It just washes the fluoride away. Maggie Gunn, our Road Safety Officer came in and talked to us about keeping safe whilst riding bikes or walking around the village.  We all now realise why we should wear our helmets. A big ‘thank you’ to Asda at Dunbar.  Katrina and Alistair wrote a letter to the manager asking if they would like to support our health week.  They said ‘yes’ and on Tuesday we collected masses of fruit including mangoes, pineapples, coconuts, kiwi fruit and lots more. All week we have had great fruit kebabs. On Friday, Mrs Smith made us fruit salad and fruit smoothies. Fantastic! The teachers didn’t miss our either; Mrs Gillanders arranged back massages and reflexology for the staff on Tuesday afternoon.  Many thanks to the SHAW group – it was much appreciated. Finally, we have been very sporty.  Mrs Allan worked us hard with aerobic stations on Wednesday and on Friday Alex MacEwen put on a mini Highland Games. We had great fun tossing the caber, wrestling the stane and everyone loved the tug o’ war. A great health week and thank you to everyone who got involved and helped us!

Well done to the staff and pupils at Stenton. It looks as though you had a great week. he fruit kebabs sound wonderful and the mini highland games look like a lot of fun! It looks like you learned lots. Are you going to make sure you keep up all the good work - being healthy - all year round?

You didn’t write anything about your Curriculum for Excellence assembly. Find out about what I wrote here:http://edubuzz.org/blogs/bloggingit/2008/05/23/curriculum-for-excellence-hot-of-the-press/

Stenton - Mid Calder Primary are having their Health fortnight this week and next. Perhaps you could ask them what they are doing and talk to them about your Health week and what you learned. Their website is:http://edubuzz.org/blogs/midcalder/
