Last week was our official ‘Health Week’ where we focused on things we can do to look after ourselves to keep us healthy. We had a visit from Carol Golightly, the community dental nurse. Did you know that you should not rinse your mouth after brushing! It just washes the fluoride away. Maggie Gunn, our Road Safety Officer came in and talked to us about keeping safe whilst riding bikes or walking around the village. We all now realise why we should wear our helmets. A big ‘thank you’ to Asda at Dunbar. Katrina and Alistair wrote a letter to the manager asking if they would like to support our health week. They said ‘yes’ and on Tuesday we collected masses of fruit including mangoes, pineapples, coconuts, kiwi fruit and lots more. All week we have had great fruit kebabs. On Friday, Mrs Smith made us fruit salad and fruit smoothies. Fantastic! The teachers didn’t miss our either; Mrs Gillanders arranged back massages and reflexology for the staff on Tuesday afternoon. Many thanks to the SHAW group – it was much appreciated. Finally, we have been very sporty. Mrs Allan worked us hard with aerobic stations on Wednesday and on Friday Alex MacEwen put on a mini Highland Games. We had great fun tossing the caber, wrestling the stane and everyone loved the tug o’ war. A great health week and thank you to everyone who got involved and helped us!

Tina Turner still can wow a crowd with her fantastic voice! Stenton Parent Group organised an amazing Stars in their Eyes night on Saturday 19th April. Performers included Dean Martin and his Italian Ladies backing group, Bananarama, Supremes, Fabba Abba, Three Tenors, Maurice Chevalier and Hermione Gingold. They played to a full house and raised a magnificent total of £860.

The eco committee have been hunting for somewhere to buy divided vegetable platters. The only site we were able to come up with so far was one in Singapore, and we thought that was a bit far to go for something to put your carrots on. (Although we did have an offer to pick some up from a Dad who was going there on business!)
Luckily, Mrs Maguire found a website and a catalogue which supplies them. We’ve emailed one of the websites to find out if the one they have (our first choice!) is disposable, or is dishwasher safe. There is also another one that we know is durable plastic, but it is pink, and we think the boys would prefer if we didn’t get pink. But we may have to, if it is the only one available!
These are the ones we have found so far.

If you know somewhere else we can buy something similar, please leave a comment!

P1, 2 and 3 are taking part in a collaboration with P1 and 2 at Athelstaneford Primary School. We have all drawn monsters, and then recorded audio descriptions of our monsters.
The audio descriptions will be uploaded to an East Lothian Blog ‘Words from the Web’. You can find it here.
http://edubuzz.org/blogs/primarywriting/
Then we will listen to each other’s descriptions, and try to draw an accurate picture of each other’s monsters.
Here are some of the descriptions. Click on the audio file to listen.
