2 of our new P1s for next session will be visiting us on Monday afternoon and will spend the afternoon in school. We hope that they will love it as much as all the other P1-3s do!
Ms. Finlayson will be visiting the both the nurseries the children currently attend to have a look at the nursery environment and see some of the work the children are currently doing. She’s looking forward to seeing how active and outdoor learning are working in nursery, and how the nursery are planning to implement A curriculum for Excellence in the new session.

P 4-7 are taking part next week in ‘The Scootcher Tree’ event at the Brunton Theatre in Musselburgh with Scottish Opera. It seems the CD player has taken up permanent residence in their classroom this week with all the practising that is going on!
This week they were involved in the athletics at Meadowbank Stadium in Edinburgh. The were very proud of themselves when they got back, apparently they were told that if there was a prize for best cheerleaders, they would have won it. It’s great that they are all so keen to support each other.
Tomorrow is the 2nd Bowling practice, in preparation for the end of term tournament at Stenton Bowling Club. All the children enjoy taking part, and P1-3 can’t wait to come and cheer you on again.
Rehearsals for the end of term play ‘Hansel and Gretel’ are in full swing. Everyone is working very VERY hard to learn all of their words in time, and are doing absolutely brilliantly with it. The songs are sounding great, and the props are looking good. Tomorrow the costumes will start to come in from home - I can just imagine all our parents sitting at home tonight with their needles and thread!

P1-3 are learning about the weather for their environmental studies topic this term. Luckily (if you like to look at it that way!) the changeable weather in the last few weeks has provided us with lots of oppotunities to experience different types of weather first hand! Today we even had thunder after school, so that will provide a talking point for tomorrow’s ES lesson!
P3 have been measuring the weather using various instruments and then recording the information using MS excel and printing out bar charts. Last week we measured wind speed with our anemometer, and this week we are measuring rainfall. (Could we have picked a better week for it?!) Unfortunately one of the rain gauges decided to join in one of the playground games today and has now been sent to the great big recycling bin in the sky. Next time, we’ll think even harder about the location!

Stenton Eco-Committee have workd hard this year to achieve their Eco-Schools Silver Award. The main focus was on Waste Reduction, and improving our school grounds. Besides all the meetings for the children and adults involved, everyone has worked hard in the garden, and it is looking great. P1 and 2 have benefitted from all that hard work during their outdoor learning time, we’re so lucky to have such a hardworking team!
Now the time has come to apply for our silver award, and take some credit for all the work that has gone on this year.
