Thanks and Goodbye!

And just like that, it’s over!

I’m struggling to come up with words to describe our week in La Thuile, so I’ll rely on the Interski Snowshots photos to do the job for me.  Just go to http://www.interskisnowshots.co.uk and enter the 10 digit code which I will make available at school.  The photos will only be available online for 4 weeks, so grab them as soon as you can.

Here We Go!

January 16, 2009 | 2 Comments

The ski trip is almost upon us!  We gather tomorrow morning at 9.30 am for the journey South, and judging by the excitement levels in S2 today I think there might be a few restless nights ahead.  But that’s okay - we have plenty of time to sleep on the coach.

Please remember that the coaches are arriving on Grange Road, so please keep the road clear.

See you in the morning!

Fireworks

I’d like to remind everyone that the importing of fireworks into the UK is illegal without an appropriate license.  Fireworks are categorised as explosives, and the penalties for importing them are potentially very heavy: A Customs guide for travellers entering the UK - Notice 1 (Acrobat PDF, 280KB)

We will be departing for La Thuile shortly after 9.30 am on Saturday 17th January.  The coaches will be stopping on Grange Road in front of the school, so please keep this area clear.

Pupils will need food for the journey down - either a packed lunch or money to buy food in service stations.

We will catch a ferry from Dover to Calais some time on Saturday evening.

We will travel through France overnight, and arrive at a service station for breakfast in the morning.  Breakfast will be provided - from this point on all meals are provided until we depart on the return journey.

We leave La Thuile after an evening meal on Saturday 24th January.  A breakfast will be provided on the Ferry in the morning, but pupils should have some money with them to buy lunch at a service station on the way back through England.

We will hopefully arrive back at North Berwick late afternoon/early evening.  The ski trip Twitter account will be kept up to date to let you know when to expect us back.

I have just returned from a week in La Thuile, spent planning the ski trip with our Interski coordinators and getting to know the resort.  I also managed to squeeze in a wee bit of snowboarding.

The conditions in La Thuile are absolutely superb for this time in the season - masses of snow - but it is very cold, so be sure to pack plenty of thermals and something to cover your face as you ski (a buff worked for me, but I also saw people wearing balaclavas and masks).

Here are some photos to whet your appetites:

EHIC Cards

October 2, 2008 | Leave a Comment

Every pupil coming on the ski trip needs an EHIC card - a European Health Insurance Card, which entitles the holder to state-provided medical treatment within the country they are visiting and the service provided will be the same as received by a person covered by the country’s ‘insured’ medical scheme.

You can apply free online here.
