Red for Heart Day- An overwhelming response!

heartjumper1 Thank you for the overwhelming and generous response to our ‘Red for Heart’ Skipping sponsorship. So far we have raised £2435.85 for the British Heart Foundation, and money is still coming in! It is a fantastic achievement! We had a fun day with so many of you dressing up in an assortment of red clothing and accessories. You were very creative! There has been a significant improvement in the standard of skipping since the challenges were introduced in November. You have been practising hard. If you still have sponsor money and forms to hand in please do so by Friday 19th March. pict0055_edited

Kyoto 1997, Johannesburg 2002, Copenhagen 2009 and Sanderson’s Wynd ECO SUMMIT 2010

Pupil delegates from the Ross High Cluster were invited to an ECO summit at Sanderson’s Wynd Primary School on Friday 5th March.  Sanderson’s Wynd ECO Group organised the event, which included speakers: Amber Moss (CRAW), Leigh Shearer (Ranger), Stuart McPherson (Biodiversity Officer) and Rev MacDonald (Church of Scotland). The opening session was followed by a question and answer slot. Delegates were then able to share their ECO work with others before agreeing a set of three shared targets to take forward together.  These are a poly bag free day, reducing the packaging from packed lunches and to organise a ’swap’ event.  At the end of the summit, delegates were able to join in the Sanderson’s Wynd Fair Trade Coffee Morning, held by the Fair Trade Group.

Fairtrade Fortnight Coffee Morning

The global citizenship representatives marked the end of Fairtrade Fortnight by holding a well attended Fairtrade tea and coffee morning. They served Fairtrade hot drinks and biscuits for a small donation. The Small World also provided a stall of products and crafts for visitors buy.

During Fairtrade  Fortnight pupils were asked to join in the BIG SWAP where people all around Britain  swapped their normal products for fair-trade ones. Many took up the challenge and brought in evidence of their swaps. The Global Citizenship group asked for recipe ideas using at least one Fairtrade product. These good ideas that were made into a Fairtrade recipe book which was sold at our coffee morning.

Here are some of the wonderful designs for a Fairtrade Mug competition. Thankyou for all the entries!

Thank you to all who gave your support of this important event.

Michael Rosen - Live Link up

The Meet the Authors programme is a series of live events that will be broadcast online with the best children’s authors run in partnership with BBC Scotland Learning. Sanderson’s Wynd signed up to take part in the first live event with Michael Rosen.  pict0072_edited  pict0073_edited

Today Michael’s live presentation was watched by all P4 to P7 S.Wynd pupils. They enjoyed listening to the author relating some funny tales about this childhood, and Michael explained how his life experiences and everyday events inspired him in his story and poetry writing. His humorous talk motivated us all to pick up a pen and start writing! To find out 12 things you didn’t know about MR, visit http://www.walker.co.uk/contributors/Michael-Rosen-1502.aspx

P7 continue to teach us signalong

pict0062_edited Every week during assembly P7 pupils teach us a few more signs from ‘Signalong’ to enable us to communicate more effectively with pupils from the Hub.  This was initiated last session and was very successful. S.Wynd pupils have been keen to learn new signs. This term, P7  have been working with Mrs Shields (Speech & Language therapist) and Mrs Cockburn, DHT from the Hub, to learn how to sign words or phrases correctly, so that they can in turn, teach everyone else who works in the school. The P7 pupils regularly visit the Hub and have the opportunity to practice signalong as they share activities and communicate with their Hub buddies.

On the 22nd of February the P7’s went to camp! We went to Dalguise near Dunkeld in Perthshire. The teachers took photos of what we got up to throughout the trip. These are some of the pictures they took! It was very cold but despite the weather we all took part in the activities and the views were amazing!

Forest School

Forest School Week 1

Well what a great start to our Forest School experience! The group were all wrapped up and ready for the winter weather. It was snowing and so we thought it would be wise to build a shelter. We used two tarpaulins and made a wind proof shelter which we used for storytelling and drinking our warm juice!

We heard the story of “We’re Going on a Bear Hunt” then we went on our own bear hunt looking for animals in the wood. Today we only found pictures of animals (I wonder if that is because of all the noise we made!) After playing some games we packed up and came back to school.

Everyone agreed it was lots of fun and we are all looking forward to next week!

Please remember to come dressed for the woods as this saves us time at the start of the day. If you have waterproof trousers they are invaluable for keeping the damp out! If you can’t get a pair please let us know.
