H2H

Welcome to the H2H web page
H2H (Happy to Help), Saltoun Primary’s PTA, has been active within the school for over 10 years. We work as sub group of the Parent council who take care of all necessary formalities. This enables us to focus on the job in hand whether it is providing much needed parent help in organising events, assistance in school or one of our very successful fundraising projects…

The Parent Volunteer List
Parents are invited to join our Parent Volunteer List. This offers flexibility for those who may be unable to take a more active role due to other commitments but would like to offer occasional help.
In our experience this works very effectively for all parties.

School Assistance
Parent assistance is invaluable and much appreciated in school. Previous tasks have included keeping the library in order, photocopying, laminating and setting up pupil maths boxes.
Do you have free time to help us? – Please contact the school
It’s a great way to get involved in a very friendly environment

Fundraising

We’re keen where possible to involve the children in our fundraising projects working in unison with teachers/staff and were successful in raising over £3300 last term/year.

Following on from the very popular school cookbook, which raised over £1062 in itself, we organised some very successful fundraising events - Family Quiz Night, Family Karaoke Night and the Summer Fair enabling the purchase of teaching resources, laptops and PE equipment to name a few.

Thanks to everyone who supports and assists our fundraising projects, it’s team work that enables success.

Shirley expressed concern that after making enquires, there appears to be insufficient photographic material for the theme ‘a year in school events,’ previously decided during discussions in January on necessary improvements. Although some great photos have been taken we need to ensure classes/pupils are represented equally. It had been considered that taking photos throughout ‘a year in school events’ would allow more time to get material required as opposed to compromising quality if squeezing the project into the very busy pre- Christmas schedule. General discussion determined that previously themed ‘seasonal events’ were more effective. Shirley suggested we continue discussions with a wider audience of parents/staff at the open parent council meeting 2/9 as their assistance will be required in ‘staging events’ and focus from then.

To be continued!…..

An amazing total of £834.46 was raised at the school summer fair.

Although only held every 2 years some points to consider….

In present form it was quite a big undertaking considering the size of our school and the helping hands available. Not enough help was available to relieve those manning stalls/events so not only were we overstretched but also unable to enjoy the fair!

Sales were excellent on Tombola, cake & candy and Caroline’s very kind donation of plants/hanging baskets etc but unfortunately outside stallholders didn’t fare so well.

Alison, who assisted in face painting, found they couldn’t keep up with demand and suggested perhaps a more activity based theme next time.

We found some activities this year were affected when assistance didn’t materialise and later the weather.

We should explore lots of new ideas/activities next time but can only pursue if help is available.

After discussion we agreed to use some of the funds for Candy’s suggestion of P.E. equipment.

Shirley will appeal to update our parent volunteer list. This enables parents who wish to help out, but are unable to commit to meetings/organisation, to be flexible.

H2H news will be informative of our role for new parents and update on news/events.

Candy confirmed significant work had been carried out in the school garden by Sean, P.7 and his dad. Although assistance had been volunteered after our appeal it was felt that as we’d set aside funds from the karaoke evening a token gesture would be made in appreciation of their tremendous work.

Christmas carol singing - £816.91 had been raised at last year’s carol singing/open eve. Points of view raised that the servery wasn’t adequate for refreshments/socialising and suggestions of perhaps returning to the hall after carol singing instead of school lead to a mini Christmas fair! Traditionally pupils showcase and sell their handmade Christmas crafts but this didn’t have to be done in school. Suggestions of.. Mulled wine, (Rebecca’s secret recipe! – she can’t remember what was in it either!) Mini Christmas cakes, wreathes/plants….Candy said a date had been entered in the diary (sorry didn’t get a note of it!)  We’ll need to check the hall would be available then. To discuss further at PC meeting 2/9…..

1. Pete Jardine - April 30, 2008

What a great night on Friday, the acts were all excellent, and there was a good turnout from the parents which is nice to see, as I did not charge appearance money (HA HA) I hope it helped to swell the school funds.

Thanks again for inviting me to take part.

Regards

2. Shirley Macdonald - May 30, 2008

Thanks to all who helped raise £420 at our recent family karaoke. It was great fun, the singers were fantastic and well done for entertaining us. I had great fun playing ‘Cruella Osbourne’ as did my fellow panelists ‘Logie Cowell’, ‘Miss Minogue’ & ‘Janny Walsh’ (lovely to see you Pete) who were great sports.- THANK YOU!
