Miss Leslie is looking for volunteers to help with paired reading.  You do not have to have a child at the school, perhaps you live in the village and have some spare time that we can use!   Click on the link to find out more.  invite-letter-oct-08

Just to keep you updated on what’s happening at Benmore.  After arriving yesterday and settling into the accommodation, pupils went on a night walk.  This was very exciting being outside in the dark!  Today pupils went climbing.  We reached some dizzy heights!  Snow is forecast - watch this space……

Primary 1/2/3 have been working with Mr Turnbull from the Arts and Cultural Department.  He is a musician and teacher.  Pupils have been exploring instruments and using music to tell the story of Marvin.  Pupils have been conducting their own compositions.  We can’t wait to hear their final pieces!

Heat, Light and Sound October 28, 2008

As part of Primary 1/2/3’s new topic they have been looking at sources of heat energy.  Through discussion they made a list of things in the home that provide heat.  Pupils then worked in groups to make a collage using pictures from old catalogues and magazines.  This has obviously stimulated interest as some pupils have brought in drawings, books and work they have done at home. It is nice too see such enthusiastic children!

Primary 1/2/3 and Nursery have been learning about fruits that grow in Africa as part of their topic work.  Today we made an African fruit salad and read the story Handa’s Surprise.  We tasted mango, passion fruit, pineapple, banana, oranges and avocado.  It was yummy!

P1/2/3 have made an African House in our role play area.  We have lots fun in there!

Just incase you haven’t seen P1/2/3 posters advertising the Harvest Festival, it is on Friday 10th October in Saltoun Parish Church.  It starts at 9.15am and when it finishes we would like to invite you back to the school for tea and coffee.

This year we are donating money to the Seeds for Africa charity.  Alongside the traditional collection basket, we are trying to fill fruit shapes with coins.  If you intend donating money to this good cause please bring it in small coins to help us fill the fruit.  Hope to see you there!

Thank you! October 6, 2008

Miss Leslie and the netball team would like to thank all the parents who came to support our Parent v Pupil event on Friday.  We raised £56 with your very generous donations.  We had a vote today and decided to use the money to buy sky blue bibs, more balls and replacement nets for our poles.  Thank you again! We really appreciate it!  Today was the last netball practice until nearer Easter….it’s a bit cold now.
