S2 Photoshop Posters

Mr Hall’s second year Graphic Communication class have just completed building a model dice using Autodesk Inventor. This was then used this to help create a poster in Adobe Photoshop. Below are images of these posters. Well done, they look excellent!

Miss Hobans class have just completed a storyboard each as part of their SG folios. A massive amount of effort and creativity has gone into these as the results show and are proving difficult to judge! To help, the class are taking part in online peer assessment by reviewing each others work (constructively!). This activity is invaluable for all students as these comments will help positively inform the next piece of creative folio work. Thanks to my class for your hard work….keep it up!

Higher Graphic Communication Thematic Presentations

S4 have been busy working on the start of their Thematic Presentation for Higher Graphic Communication. This is a series of drawings based around a single artefact.

This year we are working on small Lego models. The pupils have to sketch two sheets of drawings based on their object before drawing them more accurately using the computers. You can view more of their work by looking at the Higher Graphic Communication photoset on flickr

How to make a Lego brick

Part of the Product Design course is learning about different materials and processes, one process that you will learn about is used in the manufacture of Lego bricks. This article gives an excellent description of the process with photos. See if you can name the manufacturing process in the comments below.

Pencil Rendering in S2 Graphic Communication

Mr Meldrum’s 2nd year Graphic Communication class have been working hard on a pencil rendered bottle. This work will be included in the folio which they submit at the end of their Standard Grade.

S4 Product Design Console Controllers

S4 have been designing some controllers for a games console. Some of them are still in construction, but as part of their evaluation they’d like to know what people think of the aesthetics. Please take a look at the photos below and then name your favourite three in order - based entirely how good you think they look. (That is, now just how well you think they’ll work)

S2 Craft and Design Homework

Mr Meldrum’s S2 Craft and Design class are completing weekly homework exercises to build up their knowledge and understanding. These exercises are being made available on the S2 Craft and Design pages as they are given out, so far there are two exercises there and more are coming. Now there’s no excuse for not completing your homework! Answer sheets are also being made available so you can check your work later, but only you’ll need to ask your teacher for the password!

S2 Construction Challenge

This afternoon 10 S2 pupils made the journey all the way in to Napier University to take part in the Construction Challenge. This is a competition that schools from all over Lothian and the Borders take part in, Ross High were up against stiff competition in George Watson’s and the Royal High School.

Over the afternoon the pupils performed really well in a number of challenges related to the construction and engineering industry. In a tight fought competition Ross High were narrowly beaten by the Royal High team but their teamwork and ingenuity won them praise from all of the organisers. Despite the narrow defeat the team still walked away the proud owners of some HiVis vests and a DVD of a 3D film! There are more photographs of the team in action on flickr.

On behalf of the CDT department staff and the whole school we’d like to say a huge thank you to the pupils involved, you have done yourselves and your school very proud.
