Celebrating Success ! May 20, 2008
Posted by jhunter in : Uncategorized , 5commentsAt our assembly today we shared lots of success with the whole school. It is amazing the number of achievements that are happening every day ! P5G did a very interesting assembly on the 3 Harbours. As well as that the girls football team were presented with the cup.Mr Spence will write a post with more details about their wins!
A word from Mr Spence
‘A big well done to Prestonpans Primary School Girls Football Team for winning the 2007-2008 Season League Cup.Four years ago we at the East Lothian Primary Schools Football Association saw that there were more girls wanting to play football. We therefore decided to have a separate cup competition for the girls. This was the John Home Robertson Cup and 12 teams entered and more girls wanted to play.
Last year we ran ,for the first time,a separate league for girls only but unfortunately we did not have a cup for the winners. This season we have managed to get a sponsor,The Town House Fish and Chip Bar in Haddington, for the girls league and were able to provide a trophy. This is the very first league trophy for primary girls football in East Lothian and Prestonpans Primary School girls won it by playing and winning all their home and away fixtures. Some of the games were played in horrendous weather when even the professionals called it off but our girls played on.Well done to Prestonpans Primary School for winning the league and the cup.’
Bronwyn,Africa,Eilidh and Robbie passed their chanter exam .Robbie was at guitar when the photo was taken.
Amber our super solderer brought Paris to Prestonpans ! She has made a fantastic model of the Eiffel Tower with her Uncle Kenny. She told us it took a year to complete. She has also made the Forth Road Bridge and the Forth Rail Bridge which she shown us already.

Responsible Citizens Reward May 12, 2008
Posted by jhunter in : Uncategorized , 2commentsIn our school, primary seven volunteer’s help out at break and lunchtime. They do dinner duties, door duties, milk duties, tuck shop duties and playground super squad duties. There is a rota so that the duties are shared out fairly, but these duties aren’t just all giving and no getting. At the end of each term these responsible primary sevens receive a treat during school time. In December we went swimming and we played games in the pool, and had great fun. For the spring term treat we went to the Brunton Theatre to see ‘Pond Life McGurk’. It was a really good show about friendship during primary school years. It was definitely our best treat yet! If we keep up with our responsible duties we will earn another treat at the end of this summer term. I wonder what it could be? Next year the current primary sixes will be doing these duties, it’s definitely worth it primary six.

A Curriculum for Excellence in 5G! April 25, 2008
Posted by jhunter in : 5G, Class web sites , 4commentsP5G have been planning their learning for the term topic which is a study of The Middle East.
Having discussed what we already know the class have decided what we would like to learn and which questions we would like answered.
We then decided which curricular area each question fitted into [sometimes more than 1] to help Mrs Goodman with her planning. Finally we thought about some of the ways we could investigate and answer these questions. These include making models, doing dances and drama.
Judo Fun April 25, 2008

On the 14th and 15th April all the children at Prestonpans Primary were given the opportunity to take part in Judo.
The gym hall was buzzing with children working with the instructors from Destination Judo. They took part in activities that encouraged co-ordination, respect and self-discipline. The children were very enthusiastic,
“It was fun, it was interesting and the two instructors were very funny.”
“It’s a good sport to do because it keeps you fit.”
If anyone enjoyed their taster session and would like to get more involved then join the Junior Judo, Wednesdays 4-6.15pm, Prestonpans Community Centre. For more info www.destinationjudo.com

Posted by jhunter in : Uncategorized , 2commentsHi we are the Golden Stitchers. At golden time we do cross stitching with Mrs Hindshaw in the library. Or we just find a spare room in a quiet area in the school. We like stitching because it clears our minds and relaxes us as well. A few pieces we are working on just now are
- Butterflies…………….by Katy
- Teapot………………….by Laura(as shown above, picture one)
- Me to You Bears…..by Sarah and Jaimee(sarah’s pictured above)
- Chinese Pagoda…….by Ashton(as shown above)
- And all of the other Golden Stitchers handy work
At first you start of with simple lines and squares and then you progress on to smaller fabric and needles and then more detailed pictures. You can bring your own kits to do.
If you are in P7 you can join us Golden Stitchers at Golden Time and Golden time Extra

Dear Parents/Carers
A warm welcome to the summer term and the last term of primary schooling for our P7 children. The excitement is already building for the P7 children and we are very fortunate this year to be able to offer an enhanced transition programme. More details to follow..
Ms C Blakey Support for Learning teacher from the High School has started supporting the transition process by working in our school on a Wednesday. She will spend her time getting to know the P7 children from across the three classes and assist in classes and sets. We will also be running a series of visits for children up to the High School so that they can all familiarise themselves with the building and routines.
Mrs Anne MacLanachan, will continue to be work alongside class teachers on a Monday and Tuesday in order to further develop the children’s skills in reading, writing and maths.
Mr Scott Lavery has recently been appointed as acting Head Teacher in the Infant school and our loss is definitely their gain. One of his first jobs will be transition and we hope to have all our arrangements in place for the new P3 children join us in P4 during the next few weeks.
Mrs Adams has been appointed class teacher at Musselburgh Burgh School and we wish her well in her new post. Mrs Jackie Hunter will now work in P7 alongside Mrs Scott. I am sure the children will enjoy the last term under the guidance of Mrs Hunter and their web page on the school web site is already fantastic!
We also welcome two students into school. Mr Galloway will be starting in Mrs Fraser’s class on Tuesday and Miss Herkes is working alongside Mrs Goodman in P5.
What a success
Many, many congratulations go to the girls and boys football teams who represented the school so well this week. The girls got through to the final and were narrowly beaten by Longniddry School and the boys were placed third in their competition. An excellent effort after competing with 14 other teams. A huge thank you also goes to Mr Andy Spence who has given up a considerable amount of his personal time to run the after school football clubs.
There are lots of activities on the horizon this term including Meadowbank for the P7 children on the 28th May and our own sports day on the 19th June.
Mrs Scott is continuing to offer her exercise class first thing in the morning and it is lovely to see so many children enjoy such a healthy Wake Up call first thing.
Judo taster sessions.
We have been very fortunate to have Judo taster sessions on offer for all classes. The children have thoroughly enjoyed their experience and I think I might just join in on Tuesday when the remaining few classes have their chance.
P4 Football
Mr Curran, our janitor, has very kindly offered to continue to run an after school football club for Primary 4. It will run on a Wednesday from 3.30-4.30 pm.

Parent Council Meeting
The next Parent Council Meeting will be held in the staff room on Tuesday 22nd April at 6.30pm. The main focus for the meeting will be the forthcoming Summer Fair , where we hope to raise lots of money for the playground. The playground will be released back to us in stages and we hope to offer a wide range of activities for the children to participate in.
Val MacIntyre will also be attending from Head Office to provide support and advice. All welcome.
Healthy Schools.
We area still in the process of looking at how we can make the school as happy and healthy as possible and have been thinking about what we sell at the Tuck Shop. We are no longer able to sell crisps and are looking for alternatives. Any suggestions.?
Sweets, and especially chewing gum, are no longer allowed in school. Children should be provided with a healthy snack or purchase one from the tuck shop. Lunch box awards are now being handed out in the dining room for children who are considered to have particularly healthy lunch boxes.

Thanks to all the parents who supply indoor gym shoes for their children. May I remind you that they can be purchased from school for £2.50 Report Cards
We are delighted to send home your child’s report. This is later than in previous years due to my absence at the end of last term. I came back to over 300 report cards to read and over 300 e-mails!!!
A big thank you to the staff who spend many hours writing these and ensuring you get a picture of your child’s life in school.
We have enclosed reports from music specialists and Support for Learning as appropriate. Enclosed in every report is a response sheet which requires to be signed and returned. There is also a place for you to request a consultation slot with your child’s teacher. These will be issued on a first come basis.
Golden Time Extra
Children who had not lost any Golden Time last term were rewarded with an extra hour of fun activities on Tuesday as a reward for sustaining their good behaviour throughout the term.
The next Golden Time Extra will be held on Tuesday 13th May and children can start working towards that next week. Can you help offer an activity on that afternoon or would you like to support someone else? Let us know through the response sheet.
Can I remind everyone that the school is closed on Monday for the Edinburgh Holiday. School will resume on Tuesday at 8.55 am as usual.
