There’s a cow in the school!!!!!!! June 8, 2008
Posted by Jackie Hunter in : Uncategorized , 2commentsP5B casually looked up from their work and came face to face with a cow going past the classroom window ! Were we daydreaming ? No it was definitely a cow! Not a real one of course but a cow all the same.We had been given one to recycle as part of the 3 Harbours Festival. It had originally been part of the Cow Parade in Edinburgh and we had the opportunity to recycle it ,add our own designs and display it in Prestonpans. So 12 children painted their designs on the cow with the help of local artists.

Celebrating Success ! May 20, 2008
Posted by Jackie Hunter in : Uncategorized , 5commentsAt our assembly today we shared lots of success with the whole school. It is amazing the number of achievements that are happening every day ! P5G did a very interesting assembly on the 3 Harbours. As well as that the girls football team were presented with the cup.Mr Spence will write a post with more details about their wins!
A word from Mr Spence
‘A big well done to Prestonpans Primary School Girls Football Team for winning the 2007-2008 Season League Cup.Four years ago we at the East Lothian Primary Schools Football Association saw that there were more girls wanting to play football. We therefore decided to have a separate cup competition for the girls. This was the John Home Robertson Cup and 12 teams entered and more girls wanted to play.
Last year we ran ,for the first time,a separate league for girls only but unfortunately we did not have a cup for the winners. This season we have managed to get a sponsor,The Town House Fish and Chip Bar in Haddington, for the girls league and were able to provide a trophy. This is the very first league trophy for primary girls football in East Lothian and Prestonpans Primary School girls won it by playing and winning all their home and away fixtures. Some of the games were played in horrendous weather when even the professionals called it off but our girls played on.Well done to Prestonpans Primary School for winning the league and the cup.’
Bronwyn,Africa,Eilidh and Robbie passed their chanter exam .Robbie was at guitar when the photo was taken.
Amber our super solderer brought Paris to Prestonpans ! She has made a fantastic model of the Eiffel Tower with her Uncle Kenny. She told us it took a year to complete. She has also made the Forth Road Bridge and the Forth Rail Bridge which she shown us already.

Responsible Citizens Reward May 12, 2008
Posted by Jackie Hunter in : Uncategorized , 2commentsIn our school, primary seven volunteer’s help out at break and lunchtime. They do dinner duties, door duties, milk duties, tuck shop duties and playground super squad duties. There is a rota so that the duties are shared out fairly, but these duties aren’t just all giving and no getting. At the end of each term these responsible primary sevens receive a treat during school time. In December we went swimming and we played games in the pool, and had great fun. For the spring term treat we went to the Brunton Theatre to see ‘Pond Life McGurk’. It was a really good show about friendship during primary school years. It was definitely our best treat yet! If we keep up with our responsible duties we will earn another treat at the end of this summer term. I wonder what it could be? Next year the current primary sixes will be doing these duties, it’s definitely worth it primary six.

A Curriculum for Excellence in 5G! April 25, 2008
Posted by Jackie Hunter in : 5G, Class web sites , 4commentsP5G have been planning their learning for the term topic which is a study of The Middle East.
Having discussed what we already know the class have decided what we would like to learn and which questions we would like answered.
We then decided which curricular area each question fitted into [sometimes more than 1] to help Mrs Goodman with her planning. Finally we thought about some of the ways we could investigate and answer these questions. These include making models, doing dances and drama.

On the 14th and 15th April all the children at Prestonpans Primary were given the opportunity to take part in Judo.
The gym hall was buzzing with children working with the instructors from Destination Judo. They took part in activities that encouraged co-ordination, respect and self-discipline. The children were very enthusiastic,
“It was fun, it was interesting and the two instructors were very funny.”
“It’s a good sport to do because it keeps you fit.”
If anyone enjoyed their taster session and would like to get more involved then join the Junior Judo, Wednesdays 4-6.15pm, Prestonpans Community Centre. For more info www.destinationjudo.com
