Term 1 -The Body Machine

In Term 1 after our local study project we started to learn about the human body. P7 AS worked together to plan the topic using the principles of A Curriculum for Excellence and Enterprise in Education. We wanted to make sure that the class was learning about things which were interesting and relevant to them, and that meant asking them what they wanted to learn, how they would like to learn it, and how they would assess whether they had achieved what they had set out to.

We had a great time working together on this project, so there are some fantastic photos below to show you what we achieved in class!

The Circulatory System
We also had a visit from a special visitor called Mr Symonds, who is an Ambulance Technician with the Scottish Ambulance Service. He visited all the Primary 7 classes to teach us about the circulatory system and show us his ambulance. We had a great time and wrote him a letter to thank him for coming!

The Human Skeleton

To demonstrate our knowledge of the human skeletal system and to show what Enterprising and active learners we are, we worked in small groups and as a whole class to create an absolutely amazing life-sized skeleton. We used a ridiculous amount of modrock, newspaper, paint, wire, and lots of other materials we chose and assembled ourselves to create the separate parts of the skeleton in groups. Later we put the skeleton together - he’s called Bob :)

Jigsaw Puzzle Challenge

One of the challenges we chose as a class was to create an educational jigsaw puzzle for the Primary 4s which would teach them something about how the human body is structured. By doing this activity we showed that we had been successful learners in class, that we were effective contributors and responsible citizens who could work with others in a group, and be confident individuals by taking our creations to another class for them to try, and assess for us. We then assessed our own work to show how it could be improved.

Here are some pictures of what we achieved when we made our jigsaw puzzles.
