Pottery and Primates
Show and Tell (from last week)
For my show and tell I brought in a soft toy dog.
My mum gave it to me when I was illl in hospital. It’s very special to me and I keep it on my bed. I call my dog Teddy. Jenny
Artist Visit
On Tuesday we had a visit from Gemma who is an artist.
She wanted us to make window displays for the Three Harbours Arts Festival. She asked us about what industries Prestonpans was famous for and told us that Prestonpans Pottery was very famous. Gemma showed us some slides of pottery plates so we could see the kinds of designs.
Then she gave us each a paper plate and we had to draw a pattern on it. Once that was done we had to decorate the plate by sticking on bits of paper or material.

We worked with a partner and the design on our plate was black and white border with love hearts in the middle. Alex
Storywriting
For our storywriting this week we had to write a postcard from the rainforest and then design a picture for the front.

In my postcard home I told about how hot it was in the rainforest and how I had tried to eat a rotten apple and it was disgusting. I also said that I couldn’t sleep because it was so noisy and smelled of poo!! Lee
Project Pages
Our first project page this week was to choose a canopy monkey and find out three facts about it. We watched a dvd about canopy monkeys on our interactive whiteboard.
I chose a spider monkey and found out this monkey is too big to be hunted by eagles and that by drinking nectar from flowers spider monkeys help the pollination of the forest. Coll
I chose the colobus monkey because I liked its black and white fur. I discovered that Colubus babies are born completely white and that unlike the spider monkey the colubus monkey cannot hang from a branch by its tail. Rachel
Our second page was to find out as many facts as we could about a sloth.
We watched a little clip of video of a sloth swimming and it was amazing. I found out from a fact sheet that some sloths can rotate their head 270 degrees and that sloths are related to anteaters. Courtney.
I found out that a sloth takes a whole day to get from one tree to another because it moves so slowly and that the sloth is the slowest mammal on Earth. Mrs Stewart told us that a sloth’s hair curves in the opposite direction of most other animals: from the stomach to the back because they spend nearly all their time upside down and that way the rain drips of their hair. Dillon
I did an extra sheet this week.
I had to choose a rainforest ape and picked the chimpanzee. Chimpanzees don’t have tails because they are apes. They are very clever animals and use twigs as tools to dig for food like ants and termites. Amy
Project Gallery
Only a couple of pictures for our gallery this week.
New Serial Story
We have started a new serial story this week called The Iron Man by Ted Hughes.
The boy in the story is called Hogarth and he is the first person to see the iron man. His dad and the other farmers try to capture the iron man because he is eating up all their metal machinery on their farms. We have got to the bit where the iron man manages to get out of the pit. Lewis
Music
Yesterday for music with Mrs Birrell we made a sound picture of the rainforest. We used the base xylophones, the chimes, the chatterbox, the guiro, indian bells, rain stick and different drums and some instruments I can’t even remember. Mrs Stewart made a podcast of it and you can listen if you click on the link. Liam rainforest-picture.mp3
Show and Tell
I brought my teddy for show and tell today.
I got it from my Uncle Dean when he got married and I was a flower girl. You can take off their costumes and there is a me to you bear underneath. Kaitlin
For my show and tell I brought in my multiplication pencil.
It’s very special to me because I have had it for a long time. My grandad bought it for me in North Berwick and I use when I am doing my maths homework. It has up to the 12 times table on it and I keep it on the top shelf in my bedroom so my little cousin, who is only four, can’t get it. Tristian
GoldenTime
For Golden Time this week we had lots of different activities. Some people were playing with construction like Lego or meccano. Some children wanted to do their project while Dillon, Charlie and Lewis were trying to build cube models of the Iron Man.
Some people wanted to go on the whiteboard and some others brought in i-books to use. We have all our favourite programmes bookmarked so we can quickly find what we want to open and use. We had a nice long Golden Time today because there was no Assembly. Sam
