Rainforest poems, pictures and facts
Storywriting
For our storywriting this week we had to make up a rainforest poem. First we had think of things in the rainforest that started with each letter of rainforest. We talked about our ideas with a partner and then Mrs Stewart put all our words and ideas up on the whiteboard.

Then we all went off to make up our own poems. Once we had finished the words we had some time to illustrate our work. I was chosen as a star-writer.
We had eight star writers this week. Rebecca
Rainforest Maths
We have been looking at probability on our Rainforest Maths site.
We had to say if something was likely, unlikely or impossible to happen. Our first picture was tree frogs and crayfish. People got muddled because they thought the frogs would be able to get out of the bag easier than the crayfish. Then we realised that how many of each creature was most important.
We got so good at it that we moved on to the next level and this time we also had certain. I really liked doing the probability but sometimes you had to look really carefully as some of the creatures looked very similar. Alex
Library Visit
On Tuesday we went to the library.
It was a bit of a rush because we were just before playtime and had to get back to school. Most people chose books about rainforests and animals so they could use them for their project.
I chose a book about Orang-utans being rescued.
We also saw the new totem poles in the library garden. Emily
Project pages
For my understory creature I picked a mandrill.
I used a fact sheet to get my information and found out that mandrills are easily recognised by their brightly colour faces. Emma
I chose a sloth for my creature. I found my information in a book called Animals of the Rainforest. The most interesting thing I found out was that the long strong claws of a sloth work like hooks when it is climbing trees. Amy
Our other page this week was to make a list of creatures
that you would find in the canopy of the rainforest. I found my information in the Rainforest Animals book. Dillon
I found my information about canopy creatures in our fact sheets. Courtney
Extra Pages
This week so that some people in our class could have a chance to catch up, there were some challenges we could do.
I did a fact page about hummingbirds and found out that they can fly backwards. Rachel
My challenge was to find out five facts about tarantulas.
I found out that the tips of the pink-toed tarantula’s eight legs have special hairs for climbing smooth leaves. Courtney
I looked in the Rainforest Animals book to find out some facts about poison dart frogs.
Mrs Stewart didn’t know that some poison dart frogs are so poisonous that one gram of poison is enought to kill 100,000 people!! Dillon
Handwriting
One of the extra pages we could do was a handwriting page.
We have a book of little short rainforest animal poems and we could choose one and copy it onto the special sheet. Then we had to colour in around the writing. Rebecca
Rainforest Picture Gallery
If you are up to date with your project work you can do a rainforest picture for you topic book.

This week I have drawn a picture of the hibiscus and one of a tree frog. I copied the tree frog picture from a book. Coll
RE
On Wednesday for our RE Mrs MacKenzie dressed up as a Muslim lady.
She was wearing like a black cloak and a blue dress underneath. She had a kind of scarf over her head and you have to wear that before you go into a mosque. Mrs MacKenzie worked in a Muslim country and a lady gave her the clothes as a present. Then we watched a video about Ramadan when Muslim people are not allowed to eat during daylight for a whole lunar month. They are not even allowed to swallow. It was really interesting. Chanelle
Show and Tell
