New Term - New Topic!
Last Friday we had visitors in our school. Their names were Kool Kenny and Judo Joe. They had come to school to tell us and show us all about judo. We had to take off our socks and shoes and some people had to put on a white jacket. We were put into teams - a girls’ team and a boys’ team.
Next we did some games to warm up our bodies so no-one got hurt. Then we did some judo with a partner.
Courtney was my partner and we had to work together, taking turns each at practising the moves.
I had lots of fun and think I would like to go to judo. Jenny
Tile Pictures
This week nearly everyone finished their islamic tile patterns and they were made into a slide show.
This album is powered by BubbleShare - Add to my blog
Once some of us had finished Mrs Stewart said we could take some 2D shapes and try and make a pattern of our own.
It was really quite hard because the shapes were a bit big and it was difficult to make them fit together. I enjoyed having a go though. Coll
New Topic Corner
We have been making leaves with Mrs Horne to finish off our new topic corner. There are lots of pictures of rainforest animals and lots of books
we can use to help with our topic work. We talked about what we knew about the rainforest and then what we would like to know.
We wanted to find out about the animals, the birds and insects, and the plants as well as what a rainforest is, and where you can find them. I am really looking forward to doing our rainforest project . Rachel
Topic Workbook Plan
For our topic workbook this term we are not going to have a jotter.
Just now everyone has a poly-pocket. On the front is a label with your name and inside we are going to keep all our worksheets and our two covers which have to be decorated. When we are finished all the sheets are going to be put together and made into a proper book with a spiral binding that we can take home and keep. Amy
First Pages
For our first page we had to find out what a rainforest was. A rainforest is a very dense warm, wet forest.
They are havens for millions of plants and animals. When I drew my picture of a rainforest I tried to make sure there were no spaces or white bits as the rainforest - sometimes called a jungle - is packed with trees and plants because the heat and the rain make everything grow very fast and thick. Ellie
Our next page was a map of the world which showed us where you find rainforests. We had to colour all the rainforest areas green,
all other other land yellow, seas, oceans, and lakes blue and then the tropic and equator lines in red. We could see that rainforest only occurs between the Tropics of Cancer and Capricorn and where it is very wet as well as very hot! Emily
Books from home
Dillon and I brought in some rainforest books we had at home. My books are Revealed Rainforest and Rainforest Explorer.
I got them out of the library but we can use them in school until I have to take them back on Tuesday. I really like drawing animals and birds and am going to do lots of illustrations in my topic book. Lee
Show and Tell
For my show and tell I brought in something my gran got me. It was two cards with old money on them. One had a threepenny and a penny and one had a penny and a halfpenny. She told me that this was the kind of money she used when she was a little girl.
Mrs Stewart explained to us what rationing was and on the back of the cards it tells you how much of each kind of food everyone was allowed. I have to give the cards back to my gran when I am finished with them. Sarah
I brought in one of my wrestlers for show and tell.
His name is Carlito and I got him for my Christmas from Santa. He has lots of moveable joints and I especially like his curly hair
and his eyes which are the same colour as mine. I have two other wrestlers the same size and some smaller ones. Lewis
PE
We are having extra gym for the next few weeks with Miss McConnell and Miss Moffat.
This week we were practising our running and our stopping quickly with a one, two thump. Then we had to practice dribbling the ball. dribbling.AVI You have to remember to keep the ball next to your feet so that someone else can’t take it away from you and so that you have more control. Amy was chosen to give a demonstration. demonstration.AVI When we went into groups, dribbling was one of our stations. We finished up with relay races where we had to dribble the ball round the cones and then run back and give it to the next person in our team. Charlie
