Our first Sunshine Day and more……
Mr Murray couldn’t take us for short tennis this week because he had hurt his knee, so we had Mrs Stewart to help us instead. We practised the “drop, bounce and sweep” against the gym hall walls and tried to see how many we could do before missing. We worked in two groups because we needed space so that no-one got hit in the face. Then we worked with a partner. I was working with Liam and we managed to keep the ball going for five hits. We hope that Mr Murray’s knee is a bit better and that he will be back next week. Declan
Storywriting
For our storywriting this week we had to make a list of our suggestions for Sunshine Day.
On Sunshine Day each class could choose what they wanted to do for the whole day. I wanted to make cards and also visit the library. Other people wanted to play outside, use the interactive whiteboard, listen to music, make podcasts, draw and make construction models. Sarah G
Library Visit
As part of our Sunshine Day we had to visit the library as it was our turn.
We all picked a new book and then Erica read us the story of Rose and Mr Wintergarden. Erica told Mrs Stewart that there was an exhibition in the library of copper sculptures and that we could have a look.
I thought the sculptures were excellent and my favourite was the dragon which cost £550. There were small things too, like copper hearts and robins. The lady who made the sculptures lives in Prestonpans and had made a special sculpture of a mouse for the library. Alex
For the first part of our sunshine day, we could do things in the classroom.
I made a card for my cousin because she is in the hospital. Some people drew pictures, some made construction models, and some people played uno. Declan was building a pyramid and let me help him. We got to take lots of pictures of what we were doing. Leah

The second part of the morning we were outside. Mrs Stewart put us into four teams. Two teams played football with Alan (Mrs Stewart’s son) and two teams played non-stop cricket with Mrs Stewart. I liked the football the best because I scored a goal. We were lucky it was a nice sunny day on Tuesday and we didn’t even need to wear out coats. For our sunsine afternoon we listened to some music. We had some zydeco music, some bluegrass banjo music and also Vanessa Mae, which is my favourite. I like track number eight - Cotton Eye Joe - and we were all sitting on the carpet moving our bodies to the music but not our feet. After that we had some of our serial story and then anyone who wanted to could make a podcast of a poem, a joke or a song. I sang a song and you can hear some of our podcasts if you click on sunshine pods. Lee sunshine-pods.mp3
Unexpected excitement!
On Wednesday, just before playtime, the fire bell went. We all had to go straight outside and line up with the rest of our class on the field. We found out that it wasn’t a practice when the fire engine turned up. A sensor outside our classroom had set off the alarm. It was very cold and windy outside but we had to wait until the firemen had checked that everything was safe. We all had to jump up and down to keep warm and Mrs Stewart didn’t even have her cardigan on or the camera but tried to take some photos with her phone! Charlie
Project Work
Our project on Ancient Egyptians is almost finished. This week we had an Egyptian Quiz to complete.
Some of the answers were in our own topic book and we had to look for some of the others. The challenge was quite hard as we had to find out which explorer was the first person to enter Tutankamun’s tomb. It took me quite a long time to find the answer - it was Howard Carter. Rebecca
Ancient Egyptian Facts of the Week
I found out that Ancient Egyptian farmers trained monkeys to pick fruit for them and then throw it down.
I think that was a very good idea but wonder why the monkeys didn’t eat the fruit. Emma
Mrs Stewart asked me to look for a fact that no-one else had found out.
I discovered that the Egyptians were responsible for introducing many new ideas such invention of the potter’s wheel. Emily
Plant update
When we checked the christmas cactus this morning we found two flowers - one pink one and one reddy colour.
Hopefully next week there will be more flowers and we will try and draw them. Chanelle
Show and Tell
For my show and tell I brought in a model of an African elephant.
I got it as a present from my dad as I am going to be an archaeologist.
An archaeologist finds stuff like dinosaur bones and that’s what I want to do when I am grown up. Coll
CLASS NEWS
I am going to my sister Lucy’s nursery friend’s birthday party today, Friday. It is in the Johnny Cope pub and it’s Andrew’s birthday. Emily
I will be moving house soon. I think it is in a week. My room is going to be upstairs and it is painted pink and lilac. I will have a room to myself and I have a big bunk bed. Rebecca
My little brother has started playing football for a team but he doesn’t know the name of the team yet. Leah
I went to the Hibs stadium on Wednesday to see Hibs play Hearts. It was 1:1 but Hibs scored another goal and the referee didn’t let it in. I jumped up when Hibs scored and I got a drink of coke and a pie. Ryan
My uncle Graham is getting married. I don’t know her name but she has ginger hair. I don’t know when it is but I am going to be a flower girl. Rachel
It is my gran’s birthday today. She will be sixty-one and we are going to visit with her birthday present. Alex
On Wednesday I was at the dentist and I got two fillings and it was kind of tickly when Sean cleaned my teeth underneath. My mum told me that when the blue thing went in my mouth it was just to show where the holes were. Going to the dentist was ok though. Declan
ps a big thank you to Alan for making the football video clips and spending his day off sharing our sunshine day! is
