Health Week 2007
Every year the first week back after the Easter holidays we have a health week. We have lots of visitors and do lots of activities. This year our class is keeping a Health Week diary. Leah
On Monday morning we had taster session of hockey with Mrs Middlehurst. First we had to warm up and do stretches then we had to get a hockey stick, find a partner and get one ball to share. To hold a hockey stick properly you have to put your left hand at the top and the right hand down a bit. You have to remember to bend your knees.

One person had to put their arms out and the other one had to dribble the ball round each person. Then we played a passing game and last of all we had to try and keepie-uppie the ball on the flat part of the stick. I really enjoyed hockey and would like to play it when I am older. Ellie
After lunch we had two visitors to our class from ABEL - Anti-Bullying East Lothian.
Caroline and Judith told us what was bullying and what wasn’t. Some people in our class thought the bully was the one with the black eye, the scar and the loud voice - Caroline - but the bully was the one who looked like they weren’t a bully and that was Judith. We learned that if someone bullies, you should ask them to stop whatever they are doing because you don’t like it. If they don’t stop, then you have to tell the playground supervisor or your teacher. I thought it was very interesting how the bully did not look like a bully. Euan
On Tuesday morning our active schools co-ordinator, Mr Dreyer set up some
activities on the field to challenge us. There were five different activities and two classes at a time were out on the field.
At the walking caterpillar station everyone in that team had to put the caterpillar over their heads and walk along a course. At the team water carry you had to pull the rope and put water in a bucket.
You were not allowed to let the bucket fall on the grass. My favourite station was message in a bottle, where you had to slide a bottle with a message in it along a bit rope. Luckily the rain stayed off until we were all finsihed. It was good fun. Chanelle
We have PE with our specialist every Wednesday, and this week we had an extra slot.
We were doing underarm throws and two feet to two feet jumps.
We had to chuck the fluff balls into hoops to score points.
We were also working on the apparatus and we finished with the keep the playground tidy game.
I like gym because it helps me keep fit and healthy. Coll
On Wednesday afternoon we had an exotic fruit tasting session with Mrs Shepherd.
We tasted papaya, pineapple, and different kinds of melon as well as strawberries, oranges, plums, kiwi fruit, bananas and grapes. My favourite fruit is grapes but I didn’t like the papaya. Emma
On Thursday all the P 2’s had planned to help with a beach clean up but because of the sewage leak at the weekend this had to be postponed. The eco-defenders have still been busy though as we have been building bird boxes. We have not quite finished yet but will put a picture on the blog when they are done. Craig
The last day of our Health Week we had mass aerobics in the playground with Caroline Kay.
Luckily it was a sunny day as each year group was
out in the playground. We had really loud music and we could sing along.
Our muscles and our hearts had to work very hard. After we had finished we could have a drink of water. I wanted to do it again. Liam
Our teacher thought it would be nice to have a class news section in our blog, where we can bring you up to date with previous entries.

I liked your stories about Health Week. If any of you would like more healthy exercise, Tranent Swimming Club are holding a trials evening for new members next week. Thursday 10th May, 6pm at the Loch Centre. You have to be at least 7 years old and able to swim 2 lengths. All you need is a swimming costume and a pair of goggles! A parent needs to come with you to sign the form. You can just turn up and have a go - and bring your friends along as well.

P2/5 I have loved reading all about your Healthy Week activities. It sounds like you had lots of fun. I can’t wait to hear more about your gymnastics Leah. Well done Shawnisay in receiving a runners-up medal. You must be a real karate kid! Let’s hope that John and Dillon score lots of goals in their next game. I’ll keep checking your blog for updates and news. See you all soon. Mrs Kettell.
