S5 Critical Art and Design Studies

A reminder to all Mrs K’s S5 Intermediate and Higher pupils that unless they have submitted both critical design studies (historic & contemporary) by 4pm on Monday 24th Nov, they will be unable to sit their up-coming NAB.

S4 Prelim Exam Timetable

The S4 pupils will begin their diet of Prelim Examinations on the 12th November. Pupils will sit examinations in most but not all subjects at this time.

Many of our S4 Intermediate courses will not have Prelim examinations until February. A copy of the timetable can be downloaded here.

All pupils should confirm with subject teachers which examinations they are to sit, and take a careful note of the times of these exams.

Paris Trip - Activities Week - June 2009

We are offering an extra foreign trip for all year groups

Any pupil interested in finding out more about this trip should attend a meeting in ML5 (Mrs Fitzpatrick’s room) on Wednesday 8 October at break - be punctual!
You may collect a letter with information about the trip in advance of the meeting.

For Sale: Coracle - Ancient Fishing Boat

You may remember that in May, a group of pupils built three traditional coracles, as part of the “On Our Doorstep” project.

We have decided to offer two of these for sale in order to reinvest the money raised in similar projects for pupils this session.

The coracles are great fun and can also be used for fishing in calm water. There are various websites offering advice and ideas for coracle use - just Google “Coracles”.

The first of these Coracles for sale is now on so why not have a look and perhaps place a bid. The ebay item number is 260292628435.

To buy a coracle from a coracle builder it will cost you between £300 and £600, bidding on our’s starts at £50, so you might grab an ebay bargain. It was built in Preston Lodge by pupils supervised by a Master Coracle Builder.

Industrial Action: Wed 24th Sept - School OPEN

We have received notification that members of Unison, GMB and T & G Unite will undertake industrial action against the proposed Local Government pay offer. This action is scheduled to take place on Wednesday 24th Sept 2008.

It is likely that non-teaching members of staff may undertake strike action. While this dispute does not involve teaching staff, the industrial action may impact on the service we deliver to pupils.

Pupils should attend school as normal on Wednesday, please be aware that lunches are unlikely to be provided except for those who are entitled to free meals. Pupils should bring a packed lunch which can be consumed in the Dining Hall.

Contingency plans have been put in place to ensure that pupils are able to access the school as usual. Please ensure that your children are sent to school on Wednesday 24th September.

East Lothian Food Festival - Winners again!!

Congratulation to Ashley Buchanan and Christie Sinclair on winning the East Lothian Food Festival “Young Chef of the Year” on Friday afternoon.

They worked extremely hard and thoroughly deserved their win.

This is the fourth year in a row that Preston Lodge have won the competition. The Home Economics department is really proud of their achievement.
