Robyn

We got there, and we went to our shelter. We had lunch, and I made the rolls. We built a bridge. We put logs down on this muddy path, with a tree that was cut down. We also talked about all the equipment. We put the two logs deep into the ground so it wouldn’t move. When the tree was getting cut we had to keep a fair distance from it.

Steph

Went to woods, cooked sausages and bacon, made bridge, for going across marshy area, from a tree we cut down. I dropped sausages when i was cooking them. Smoke burned my eyes.

Bethany

I was a chef and we built a bridge for teh John Muir Award. The tree got chopped down and we had to stay back from it. We put two big logs across it.

Big Cook

WEEK 3

When got there, we recapped on what we did last week. We made another fire, and I got it lit first time. We had toast on the fire. We found a new camp to sit and eat at. We started making seats for the camp. We had to leave what we did. And finally, Bethany had to wait to get the car keys so she could get her shoes. Stephanie

We arrived at Butterfean Woods and got ready. When we got into the woods itself, we played a game called Stealth. Stealth is a game where someone stands in a spot, closes their eyes and counts to 20. when they are counting everyone runs and hides. trhe aim of the game is to get back to the person counting, without being seen. We then toasted toast with our own cooking methods, and then ate it. We also chose a place for our base. Last but not least, we started making seats. Bethany

Making my baby tree and making the benches and chair. Played hidey.. had food.. hoops and bread. Robyn

Played that Stealth game, made a fire and had toast and spagetti hoops. Found a place for our camp and made seats. There was a tree stump in the ground and I pulled out and found a log which I used for a seat. I was making daggers for the seat to stand it up. Raymond

WEEK 4

Finnished the benches

Had a hobo lunch

Be on your own for 10mins

Robyn

3 of us went up to the woods in Franny’s car. We finished the sseats, had personal time and had a hobo meal.

Bethany

We finished off the seats at our new camp, had a hobo lunch and we had to have 10 minutes on our own to think about things.

Stephanie

SVS pupils have started a Forest Schools Project in conjunction with the Countryside Rangers (Nick and Leigh). Below are the students diaries from their first experience.

Forest Work We went to Butterdean Woods and we played a game where you need to sort your team in order of height, on a raised platform, without falling off. We then made a fire and had hot chocolate, tea or coffee. After that we made a basic shelter. The awesomest bit is jumping on and over the logs. We had a close encounter with a wolveriene….. …only joking

Forest schools made fire Had tea made hoos

Forest. We got to Butterdean Wood and got ready for our first day. We played a game where we had to go on order of height, but we couldn’t stand off the wood. The second time, we did it with age. Then we spotted some stuffed animals that were hidden in the trees. We walked along the trails, where we found things that we will use and we learned things about the forest. We also put up signs at places where we are not allowed to go to. We found some acorns that were eaten by squirrels and a hole where a deer had slept. We stopped for a break, where some people had a drink. Then, before we left, we built a tent out of tree branches, but we didn’t have time to finish it.

Forrest Schools went to Butterdean Gathered wood to make a fire boiled water on fire to make hot drinks we built a den.

Went and looked for stuffed animals that were hiding in the woods.

The S3 SVS class were looking for a project to inspire them from a business point of view. They came upon the idea of providing a service for staff.

A weekly fruit and/or vegetable bag.

They decided this should be delivered to staff in a ‘Bag for Life’ to ensure limited waste was created from the project.

A local supplier was found - Seton East Farm Shop, who would supply the fresh local produce on a weekly basis. Orders were taken from the staff for their £5 bags and the project got underway. First deliveries were made this week to 25 staff who were delighted with the fresh produce. Accompanying recipes which the group provided gave ideas of dishes to make with the contents of the bags.

The pupils take responsibility for their particular client group regarding orders and distribution of goods.

Watch this space for updates!!
