Week beginning October 6th 2008…

This week is the last week before the October holidays and we will be busy making sure we get all the important things done before we break up…

Fingers the Fish

This week we will be cleaning out the fish tank before we leave Fingers on his own for a week. He will be given a special food tablet that will last him for the duration of the holidays but he will need a good clean out before we all disappear for our time off. We will be spending some of Monday afternoon scrubbing and washing so that he can see out of his window on life again…

ELP Maths

In ELP Maths this week we will be continuing our shopping work - your child will have been given a homework project to do over the holidays that involves them visiting their local shop and practising their money and price symbols. We hope you have fun finding out about the cost of things and further developing the skills the children are picking up so quickly at the moment - we don’t want them to lose any momentum over the October break and the project will be of huge help in that respect. Thank you

ELP Science

In ELP Science we will be looking to use hi-tech instruments to measure our pulse and blood pressure before and after exercise. Last week we investigated how to use low tech instruments (our fingers and a watch) to measure our pulse. This week we will be using the kind of instruments you might find at the doctors. What will happen to our blood pressure and pulse after we exercise?

ELP Social Studies

This week in ELP Social Studies we will be exploring the world of Fairtrade. We will be investigating what they do, how their work helps the poor and what products they sell in our Scottish shops. A trip to the local Scotmid is planned for after the holidays and we will be able to investigate how many Fairtrade products they sell - and what they are.

ELP Art

In ELP Art we have been drawing a representation of our own “Bellany”. We have been trying to use his colours, style and techniques to make our own picture of a local scene. It has been great fun and we have produced some lovely work!

ELP Drama/ASDAN

Last week, as a huge surprise for everyone, we performed our own small puppet show “Lucy the Parrot”. It was simply the most wonderful entertainment and gift to everyone who came to watch. Amy starred as Lucy the Parrot, Dale starred as Sir Viper the Snake and the narrator (a cheeky monkey!), Steven starred as Ribbit the Frog and Melissa was wonderful as Pinkie Pie the Butterfly…

Miss Strachan was a very enthusiastic and talented Cocoa the Spider and Mrs Hoban directed in a manner that would have given Steven Spielberg a run for his money!

Thank you to everyone who was involved in this production - the rest of us were absolutely thrilled and priveliged to have been involved as your audience. Well done!

ELP Gardening

This week in the ELP Garden we will be looking at those dastardly villains  - the weeds! Why are they bad news for us? What can we do to keep them out of our gardens?
