Every Thursday since Easter we have been reading a class novel. The author whose work we have chosen is Roald Dahl.
The children have voted each time for their favourite book.
We began with Fantastic Mr Fox. It tells the story of a sly, cunning and creative fox who tries- and succeeds- in outwitting the farmers, Boggis, Bunce and Bean, from whom he steals. But not without losiing his tail!
We made a booklet of Foxy Facts which we all enjoyed researching.

Our second choice of book was George’s Marvellous Medicine, which has hilarious consequences for George’s grumpy granny.
We wrote poems about our favourite smells and those smells we don’t like. This also tied in with our Health programme.

The book we have just finished was Esio Trot. Look at the word backwards and it says Tortoise. The story involves three characters, Mr Hoppy, a batchelor,Mrs Silver, a widower and Alfie the tortoise. Through skill and determination, Mr Hoppy wins the heart of Mrs Silver and they all live happily ever after.
We studied tortoise facts and wrote our names backwards. Try it !

We have just started reading Danny the Champion of the World, and look forward to finding out why Danny’s dad has a secret vice and what the consequences are.
